4 Howling Stars Review

A nice twist on the werewolf lore with these special Guardians. Mark has no knowledge of his ancestry till he meets a local woman named Page. Things get complicated fast as Mark gets drawn deeper into the thick of it. I love how he hears a rock song playing in his head that seems to fit the situation he is in at any given time. The love scenes are just the right touch of hot and sexy for paranormal romance fans.

Descriptive when it comes to explaining the transformation from human to wolf, so it gives the reader a vivid picture of how it takes place. These werewolves are unpredictable, and the battle to survive in this world is great. This has one heck of an ending. I'm not sure if this is a standalone, but I believe it is. I would love to see more books with Guardians because I think it deserves a little more exploring. Here's hoping for more!

Excerpt 4

"... Warmed by the fire but still soaked from the rain. I feel her fingernails gently scratch my back, starting from my right scapula, diagonally down to my doused jeans. The tingling pain released unknown desire. As her hands moved, placing them on my shoulders, she stepped closer to me. The moment her body touched mine, her feel was different than before. Warmer, delicate but commanding."

Review:
I enjoyed this book. I am a sucker for shifters. And a witch that can handle her own, love it!
Even though this is part of a series and there is a higher story arc, this book was a complete story. It's done as a serial should be, each part being whole while still blending in to the rest. You still want more of the big picture, but the little picture is enough to tide you over.
I came into this series on this book. I am pretty sure I have just kissed getting a decent night's sleep again until I am done with the rest, before and after, this offering.

5 Bloody Fangs!!

Synopsis:

“Don’t look into her eyes. If you do, she’ll take your soul.”

Werewolf Griffin Romeo has new prey—a sexy female vamp named Isabella has been hunting in Sin City, and it’s Griffin’s job to stop her. Tracking Isabella is easy work for an alpha wolf, but once he gets close to gorgeous Isabella…Griffin’s careful plans go straight to hell. Because with one bite, he’s absolutely hooked on her, lost…mated.

Vamps and werewolves are supposed to be sworn enemies. They aren’t supposed to feel a white-hot attraction that burns soul deep. Now that he’s found his mate, Griffin isn’t about to let Isabella go, especially not when he learns that Isabella isn’t the killer who is attacking humans in Vegas. Griffin’s mate has been set-up, and he’ll fight with a wolf’s fury to find the enemy who is working against them both. Someone wants Isabella to be judged guilty by the wolves in Vegas, but Griffin won’t let that happen.

Their mating may be forbidden, but Griffin and Isabella are about to show the paranormal world just how fiercely a vamp and werewolf can fight for each other—because mates bond forever. And nothing will come between them.

Author’s Note: FORBIDDEN BITE is a short, sexy story (32,000 words) about one hot werewolf and his sexy vamp mate. Lust comes first (and fast!) in this tale, and then love is close behind. If you enjoy a hero who will gladly sacrifice everything for his lady, hot times, and a happy ending…then maybe you should take a BITE. (Goodreads)

Review:

This one is a short story, but a well written one. I tried to savor it , I really did. I usually  don't prefer short stories because they usually lack backstory and lots of plot. This one had loads of details, backstory and lots of heat. It flows smooth and left me wanting more, but satisfied. The characters are developed and continue to do so throughout the story.  Wolves and Vamps, my favorite, even if they are forbidden to bite.

Synopsis:

Years after she thought she left town for good, Jillian is back and has enlisted the help of her older brother’s ex-best friend (and the man who broke her heart), Jack, to track down her sister-in-law, who’s fallen in with a rival biker gang—but Jack knows they’re werewolves, and that he has to protect Jillian at any cost, even if she hates him. (Goodreads)

Review:

This is not your ordinary Jack and Jill story. Jill’s brother asked her to help check up on his wayward wife, little do they know the can of worms that simple question will cause. This is the first I have read of this author, and I was not disappointed. If you love werewolves, you will devour this in one sitting like I did.

The sizzle factor is off the charts! The characters are well developed and continue to grow throughout the entire book. The flow is smooth and you will be poked from page one. Even the characters you don't really care for, Carrie the wayward sister in law, you will end up rooting for. She falls into thrall of the Alpha, and her battle to be free is real. I loved Jill’s spunk. Don't mess with a woman on a mission. Jack is a tortured soul, the kind of dark broody we love. I can't recommend this shifter book enough. I hope there will be more to come, I’d love to follow the rest of the pack to be there for their HEA.

Review:

This was a new read for me from this author but I did enjoy it. The only reason I have it as 4 vs. 5 was just little things that personally irritated me but that's just more about me than the actual book itself.

The two main characters were a good match. Jackson, or JT, was an arrogant man just needing to be taught a lesson on humanity. Whereas Kylie, or KK, was still a woman growing into her own. Both characters were incredibly smart and as usual the man was lagging behind not wanting to step up and admit feelings- go figure. The attraction was strong between the two, but it wasn't a very big obvious thing in my opinion- I personally could have used a little more, as it was the scenes were too in depth or long as I would have liked between the 2. It seemed that while JT was the older of the two, that KK was more mature and grown with her actions and decisions, which I enjoyed in a lead, but it was frustrating with the resistance from JT. Some parts just based off how JT was presented were rather predictable in the story line which I wish would have had me guessing a little more. The only other thing that bothered me was "Mr. X" which I personally couldn't get over due to the BDB having a similar character/description.

I will for sure keep reading this author though to see how other works compare as aside from the couple of issues I wish were different (i.e. more romance/love scenes, less predictable) it was a very well written book that I enjoyed and kept my attention straight on this read.

Guest Post: Heroes or Villains

Do you love your Heroes more, or your Villains?

I love my heroes.  But I love my villains, too.  The first book in my Wolfe Creek series (Lone Wolfe Protector) features Zane Wolfe as a “kind of” villain/bad boy/is he-or isn’t he-a werewolf.  I started out writing Zane as a guy who was supposed to just make the reader question who the real villain was, but as the story went on, I started falling in love with him.  Then as the book ended, I realized Zane would have to have his own story.  He was that hot, that alpha, that yummy ;)
However, Koda (the hero in Lone Wolfe Protector) is pretty hot and alpha himself.  I loved Koda just as much as Zane.  Talk about confusing.  At one point I wouldn’t have minded finding myself in a Koda/Zane sandwich.
The third book, The Moonshadow’s Daughter, features Jake Blackstock as our hero.  He’s fairly yummy, too.  He’s the kind of guy who’s marriage material from the get-go and his hero status is firmly rooted from the first chapter.  I heart Jake.  Tall, dark, handsome...and a doctor to boot.  I hope you’ll love him, too!
Happy reading!

To the citizens of Wolfe Creek, Aimee Styles is dead. What they don’t know is she’s alive...and a werewolf. After she was bitten two years ago, Aimee isolated herself away from the town, determined to keep them safe. But all it takes is an icy winter evening—and an incredibly virulent flu—to interrupt her self-imposed exile.

Nothing prepared doctor and single dad Jake Blackstock for the sight of Wolfe Creek's missing girl, or her delicate beauty. He's instantly and fiercely attracted to her, despite her secrets and the shadows in her near-black eyes. Jake's falling hard. He knows nothing about Aimee...or what she really is.

But something else lurks in Wolfe Creek's shadows. Something malevolent. Something that won't hesitate to rip apart their life and new love…

“We might get more than a foot tonight,” Jake said,
looking out the window. “Maybe two.”

She nodded, not liking the thought of what else might
be out there in the darkness beyond the cottage. Tonight, she
was glad to be sitting in Jake’s living room, so close to him
and Daniel. If there was something watching in these woods,
it’d have to do it from a distance.

“Why are you here?” he asked.

She glanced up to find him studying her. She could tell
the beer was having the same effect on him that the wine
had on her. His gaze dropped to her chest for a moment,
then her thighs, before coming back to rest on her face. His
expression was bold, unapologetic.

“Why? Can you tell me that much?”

She took an even breath and put her glass down. She
knew she’d have to give him some kind of decent answer.

He deserved one. But she couldn’t exactly tell him the
two biggest reasons why she sat here now. That, one, she
was pretty sure something was stalking his little family in
the woods of Wolfe Creek, and she had to watch over this
home and the people inside it. And two, she was completely
attracted to him and lonelier than she’d ever been in her life.

“I’m…tired,” she said, choosing her words carefully. “Of
being alone. It’s hard.”

She let her gaze shift back to him, afraid of what she’d
see there. It was more than she’d intended to say, mainly
because it was so true. She hadn’t really meant to open up to
Jake Blackstock, but she guessed she could thank the wine
for that. She’d always had a problem with her filter, but add
any kind of alcoholic beverage to the mix, and forget about
it.

His eyes didn’t hold any kind of pity. Nothing to make
her feel like some kind of charity case. Instead, she saw
empathy, a kind of connection that touched her deep down.

“Me too,” he said simply. “I am, too.”
She watched him, studying his features. As beautiful as
they were, they were unable to mask the pain that lay behind
them.

“I guess we have something in common, then,” she said.
Her heart tumbled as his gaze dropped to her mouth.

He sat only a few feet away and she could almost feel his
body heat against her skin. The wind continued to howl
outside, impatient, lustful. The fire burned, but it was dying
down now. Only the embers remained, an aching memory of
what blazed there only an hour before.

“Why won’t you come back?” he asked. “You have so
many people who care about you. They must love you very
much.”

“I can’t. Maybe someday, but not yet.” Her voice hitched,
surprising her. Tears filled her eyes. She hadn’t let go and
cried for so long. But since meeting Jake, she’d done a lot of
things that she hadn’t in a while.

As she grew, so did her imagination, and it didn't take long to realize she was a romantic at heart. She began to fancy herself the future wife of a cowboy, the likes of which graced every paperback novel she could get her hands on. She decided to go to college in Oklahoma to snag herself one, but irony won over when she fell in love with a hippie in sheep's clothing instead. Together, they came back to Oregon, started a family and watched their dreams unfold. Kaylie wrote her first book when her girls were toddlers, editing sex scenes with The Wiggles on in the background. She's proud of many things in life, among them the fact that she can still recite her lines from Romeo and Juliet from her seventh grade play, the fact that she can set a grilled cheese sandwich on fire faster than most people can make one, but mostly she's proud of the stories blossoming inside her noggin on a daily basis.

Excerpt

Sandra King ran through the forest terrified for her life. Her pack had just been ransacked by a scourge of vampires. She’d witnessed the murder of so many, along with several of her family.

I shouldn’t be alive.

She had run while listening to most of her pack being destroyed. They had been killed, but who had been responsible for giving away their location? For as long as she could remember, and even according to all the history books, wolves and vampires had been at war with each other. She didn’t even know why, only that she had to hate them. During her twenty-five years she’d never once met a vampire, or even touched one.

Tonight, that was all about to change. She kept on running, and when her lungs were about to burst, she had no choice but to lean against the nearest tree trunk trying to gather her senses.

Her heart was pounding, and she couldn’t hear anything other than the howling of the wind. This is what made vampires so deadly. They didn’t have a heartbeat, or a scent to them, and this made them impossible to track.

Some romance fiction talks of vampires and wolves having repulsive smells; it was a complete lie. Vampires didn’t have anything. They were evil to the core, disgusting in every single way. She’d just witnessed so many of them taking out her pack.

A twig snapped in the distance, and Sandra turned toward the sound. Out of her whole pack she’d always been the slowest. Where a lot of wolves had naturally slender bodies, she didn’t. She’d always been plagued to be bigger than most of her pack. Her own mother had put her on a diet to try and get her to slim down so she could attract the right kind of man.

There was no man for her, though. All of the guys had placed her in the friend column, or they had not cared for her. One day she hoped to find a man who would love her for her, and to start a family with him. She loved kids, and one day she would love to have many children call her mother, and love them.

Staring up at the sky, Sandra closed her eyes in the hope that whoever was out there didn’t find her.

When she opened her eyes again, she knew it was the biggest mistake she’d ever make. She’d let her guard down, and now she was staring into the scariest eyes she’d ever seen. His eyes were black, and reminded her a little of a shark just before it struck its prey. Her heart pounded and for several seconds neither of them did anything.

Suddenly, he closed his eyes, and when she looked at him again his black eyes had changed to brown, and he looked almost human. She opened her mouth about to scream, and he sprung into action. He pressed his hand against her mouth, wrapping an arm around her waist, and tugged her close so that her back was to him. At first, she tried to fight but he was just too strong, keeping her locked into place.

“Don’t scream, baby. You scream, they all come running, and I won’t be able to protect you.”

She was confused. He was the one who was trying to kill her.

The man, whoever he was, wrapped his entire body around her, placing his hand over her heart. What the fuck was he doing?

“Be still, be quiet, don’t make a sound,” he said, whispering the words against her ear.
Sandra couldn’t believe the response he gained from her body. Heat spilled between her thighs, and she had to fight her own need to reach out and touch him.

The vampire behind her didn’t say anything. He didn’t respond even though he must have scented her arousal to their closeness.

Couldn’t the ground just open up and swallow her?

About the Book

Being wicked never felt so good.

Born from hate and violence, Lathan knows all too well what darkness feels like. He’s centuries old, and an abomination to the supernatural world. With a vampire father who forcibly took Lathan’s werewolf mother as his own, Lathan’s hybrid genetics make him feared by all.

Abbi has no one, nothing of importance in her life, but that doesn’t stop her from living. When Lathan feeds on her and tries to use compulsion to make her forget, she realizes he isn’t just a vampire, but something altogether different. He’s also her mate.

Can Abbi accept Lathan for who and what he is? Can she allow herself to be mated to a man who is half vampire and half werewolf, one feared amongst human and immortal alike? She knows he won’t stop until he has her.

Excerpt:

Lathan was born of this world in blood, hatred…violence. He took his first breath with his mother’s arms around him, her tears of sadness, hurt, disgust, filling him. It was the only world, the only emotions he’d ever known. And it was that memory, even as he lay there vulnerable—unable to speak, barely able to breathe—that he watched his mother pass. It was a curse being able to remember every single memory of his life, a “gift” because of his hybrid breed, his dual species genetics.

He stood in the shadows, his hunger insatiable. He watched the humans, knew their blood—the sustenance that gave him life, gave him strength and power—was also the same viscous fluid that disgusted him.

He was half vampire, half werewolf, a demon among his kind, an abomination because of the two bloodlines running through his veins and of how he came into this world. His werewolf mother was kidnapped and raped by his vampire father, a male that claimed she was his mate. But Lathan’s father hadn’t cared about anyone but himself. He’d defiled the one woman that was claimed to be his mate, took her from Lathan because he was a selfish bastard.

It was because of his father he didn’t have a memory that wasn’t tainted with violence and degradation. It was because of his father, Karloff, that Lathan couldn’t show his face in the paranormal community without fear and disgust following him, because everyone knew who he was. The stench of his father’s blood ran through his veins, tainting him, marking him as evil. Karloff’s reputation was by far the most sinister of their kind, was tainted with the horror of the life he himself led, and of the lives he took.

Maybe Lathan should have had more empathy for the man that sired him, the man that forced his seed upon Lathan’s unwilling mother. But the truth was after three hundred years of living in this world alone, Lathan had no empathy for anyone or anything. He had no emotions, no expectations, or even hope that he’d find a mate, if one even existed.

But he’d killed his father a century ago—ripped open his throat, bathed in his blood—sand knew that killing the man that had raped Lathan’s mother, took from her everything she knew and loved, was a small act of vengeance on his part. It wouldn’t solve anything, wouldn’t make anyone see him as anything more than a monster, but it made Lathan feel a little less dark inside.

He moved back into the shadows even further when a young, beautiful, and unsuspecting woman started walking toward him. She was human, with long reddish brown hair, and eyes the color of the greenest emerald. She was slender, couldn’t be more than in her twenties, and the animal in him—the wolf, the demon he was—rose up. He wanted to taste her, wanted her blood to coat his tongue and move along the back of his throat. He’d never been this thirsty before.

But it could be because he’d held off feeding for the last couple weeks, hating to taste the metallic flavor of the substance that gave him life. Lathan wanted her blood, wanted it covering his mouth and dripping down his chin.
His vampire side felt the call of the blood, felt the power move through him, strengthening his muscles, making his body coil tight, ready to snatch her body to his, tilt her neck to the side, and expose the creamy expanse of her throat.

And then she was right here, the wind picking up and blowing her hair around her shoulders, having her scent slam into him. His dick got hard, his claws emerged, and his fangs punched forward. He hadn’t been this excited, hadn’t been this aroused in his entire existence.
