Release Day Blitz: Not So Wicked

Not So Wicked by T. A. Moorman
Published October 30, 2018 by GothicMoms Studios
YA Paranormal/Urban Fantasy

Synopsis:

Caught in a realm they know next to nothing about, in a time where they're hated for not what they are but how they look, these supernatural teens may find it harder to curve their bloodlust than they thought.

Like most teens, even those with supernatural powers and abilities, Elvira thinks that her days at Be Prepared High are a colossal waste of time. Especially Feeding 101, since she's a cursed vampire that was born without fangs. She and her friends view most of the classes as useless since they never plan on venturing to the human realm. Why would they when Underlayes was made specifically for every factions' safety, where they could roam free day or night with not a care in the worlds.

But just like her parents always told her, sometimes you're put into situations you can't control.

Elvira's life takes an unexpected turn when a wizard hell bent on misplaced revenge kidnaps her and several of her friends. Not only does she send them with a one-way ticket to Detroit, Michigan, she sends them to a time when the tension amongst the races is at its highest. And having to deal with race issues is the one thing that has never even been so much as a thought to any of them and is the one course not on the roster.

But will everything they've learned in school be enough to keep them alive? What will they all do when racism stares them in the face? Most importantly, how will they get back home?

Chapter 1

Once upon a time... Really? I'm not starting my story off with that lame ass cliché. Fat chance. Not when my story is anything but classic. You can think of this as the life and times of a teenage vampire. A real one, not one that sparkles as though we were sprinkled with some type of fairy dust. Oh! And we’re born, not made by just being bitten, consuming blood from another vampire, or any other legend you may have researched somewhere. The bitten one is the most ridiculous theory any of us have ever heard of. I mean really, think about it, if everyone ever bitten by a vampire were to turn into one how could they ever go back for seconds on the same victim, er donor? Could you imagine how large the vampire population would be? Anyway, you wanna hear my story? Just sit back, grab a pint of blood, or milk, and have a listen.
First off, I don't live in your dimension, I live in a separate one called Underlayes. Where the things that go bump in the night – werewolves, vampires, mermaids, sirens, witches, and so much more – truly are real. Underlayes has regular neighborhoods just like Earth does, we don’t live in a ton of dug out caves, or cryptic looking castles; besides the royals anyway. We used to live amongst you guys, but that was way before my time, and a story way too long and boring for me to bother with repeating. Just know that we all truly do exist and a very few of our number walk alongside you still. So, you may want to think about that before you lay down at night after bullying the school nerd or your shy co-worker. If they're the silent and quiet type they're more than possibly plotting your untimely demise and deciding what side-dish you'd go best with. Or what curse to place on you. Something my Mom should have thought about a long, long time ago.
Me? The names Elvira, yea, Mom and Pops have a sick and twisted sense of humor. Which when you come to think of it is actually a very good thing, since Mom was dumb enough to piss off a witch when she was preggers with me and my brother, Dracula (yup, again with the humor), Drake for short. During one of her many mood swings dear old Mom went completely off on an already pissed off witch; something about the witch crossing in front of her, and Mom thinking that would make us come out cross eyed (and you thought your mom was superstitious, Ha!). Miss Witch decided to do her one better and really did curse us both. I was granted with the gift of being the only vampire known of with NO FANGS! Since Underlayes doesn't have hospitals bagged blood isn't exactly just lying around. Why not just bite down extra hard you say? Probably because that leaves a big chunk of meat in my mouth and vampires can't digest meat; we have a strictly all liquid diet. Why not just slit someone's wrist and pour it in a cup you ask? If you were on an all liquid diet, would one glass a day keep your hunger pains at bay? NO! And draining someone completely dry doesn't work either, unlike how they portray things in your human movies, blood clots up pretty quickly when it hits air; unless pumped up with nasty anti-coagulants which leave a horrible aftertaste and makes the blood nearly impossible to digest. So the blood shortage on your neck of the veil? Feel free to blame that on us, Mom and Dad had to feed us somehow during the experimental processes of properly bagging and storing the blood the way humans do. But no worries, they haven’t had to raid your neck of the realms in a long time now. The alchemist’s studied the components your scientists used and now have it down pact.
I'm not really sure if Drake's curse is worst or pretty much just as bad. Him? He goes into a full-blown shock at the very sight of blood; fainting spells, seizures, black outs, the works. Though lucky for him rarely all of those at once. Lucky for Mom and Dad, he could still at least savor the taste and smell of it. But talk about being seriously dependent upon someone else, hard to nourish yourself when you can’t even look at your food. And as a baby? You try putting a blindfold on an infant, especially one with fangs, and let me know how well that works out for you. Ah, but it made for some fangtastic pranks when I was thirteen, which also ended in a lot of punishments. But they were so worth it!
So that’s us, Elvie and Drake, two of the only known vampires forced to live on bagged blood. Though Drake may get lucky one day and be able to savor a neck or two, as long as he keeps his eyes shut tight and doesn’t dribble.
Can’t we just break the curse you ask? Ask Aunt Flo that one. Did I fail to mention the witch in question was, and still is Mom’s best friend? She’s also a witch with more power than she can handle who needs to watch what she says at ALL times. The curse was supposedly never intentional and trying to undo it has proven pretty much impossible.
Mom, Trinity Alkaev, is a beautiful creature with a body neither skinny nor large, but what one describes as buxom perfection. Also, one of the most patient females you will ever meet, and a truly ferocious beast, fangs and all, when pissed. Dad, Borya Alkaev, is the strong not so silent type, with a chiseled chin and sculpted cheekbones in which I heard would give Michaelangelo a run for his money. Born after the creation of Underlayes, he’s only two hundred years old, so I never understood how he ended up with such a thick accent as if he just left the great Motherland of Russia. The exact opposite of Mom when it comes to patience, but the best dad any set of unorthodox twins could ask for. Neither of them were an only child, but both are the youngest and only surviving children from both of their respective lines. Many died before the dimension of Underlayes was made, some during the move. And Aunt Flo, I’m not even getting into that one. And as far as looks go Drake and I are a perfect combination of the two, with the exception of the fact that I have no fangs.
THUD. CRASH. SCREAM.
What in Hel’s name was that?
“Elvira Esfir Alkaev!” Moms blood-curling screams vibrated through the floorboards, “How many times do I need to tell you not to leave your blood bags lying around? Get down here and help me clean up this mess. And carry your brother to his room!”
Well there you have it, the usual beginning of a day in the house of Alkaev.
“Now young lady!”

And what better time than when everyone will be together on Easter? But, things start going downhill before they even walk through the front door.

When she takes him home to meet her family, he soon learns he isn't the only one who's been keeping secrets from her. The fact that her Dad is allergic to cats certainly doesn't help Antonio keep his.

Be sure to attend the FB Event for plenty of games & prizes!

Excerpt:

After going a few more rounds with Mildred, and Mom threatening both of us to stop, I grabbed a snack tray from the kitchen like she told me to. When I went back to grab some cans of pop she said to me, “Make sure you get your boyfriend some milk. I’m sure he’d like some.”

“Mom. Will you can it with the cat talk?”

“Don’t roll your eyes at me young lady!” she said as I made my escape from the kitchen.

I don’t know what I was in such a hurry for. When I stepped back into the living room the tension in there was so palpable I thought I was going to have to go back in the kitchen and get a butcher knife to cut through it.

Millie sat over in the corner where she conveniently pretended to watch the tv, but in actuality she just watched Dad and Antonio do their level best to not look at each other. Upon closer inspection I saw that Dad was watching tv, and also glancing at Antonio out the corner of his eye. And I think he was growling at him; it was so low in his throat that I could have been mistaken. I don’t know if Antonio even payed any attention to what was on the screen, but his left leg shook so bad his entire body seemed to vibrate.

They jumped a little and looked guilty as sin of something when I dropped the tray down onto the table. None of them had even noticed me walk in, “Don’t everybody speak at once.” When I went to sit down on the couch closer to Antonio than Dad, Antonio put his arm around my shoulder, and yes, Dad growled, “Daddy, is there some reason you’re growling at my boyfriend? And what is that smell?” I hadn’t gotten a whiff of anything until just then. But there was an almost visible aroma coming from my dad that reminded me of my old medicine cabinet that my parents kept stocked year-round.

“I was not growling, must just have something caught in my throat.” Was Dad’s throaty, baritone reply. His was the kind of voice that sent chills up a kid’s spine and put fear in their heart when caught doing something bad growing up, trust me. “Hope it wasn’t a hairball.” Antonio choked out a small laugh at that. “That smell is all the Vick’s I got rubbed all in and around my nostrils and upper lip. I’m hoping that and all the pills your mother just shoved down my throat can curtail whatever has my allergies afflux.”

“And what on earth are you watching?” I finally looked up at the flatscreen hanging up over the fireplace mantle to see a bunch of tigers running in the wild. Since Dad was the one holding the remote at that point he must have been the one to pick out the show. But I don’t remember ever seeing him even glance at the Discovery Channel before. “Oh my God, what did he just do to that reindeer?”

“Oh, sweetie, we were just discussing how aggressive tigers are, so I decided to pull this up to prove my point.” Came Dad’s reply.

Which Antonio countered with, “We were also talking about the fact that a pack of wolves could be considered even more aggressive and unpredictable. Just so happened that this episode featured tigers and not wolves.”

Mildred bust out laughing in her chair. Before I could ask her what she found so funny, she jumped out of her seat saying, “I’ma go see if Mom needs any help with dinner.”

Suprise Release: Santa's Curse

Santa's Curse by T. A. Moorman
Published July 1, 2018 by GothicMoms Studios
Parnormal/PNR Short

Blurb:

What if Santa was a vampire?

Jacquelyn, an enchantress with an overprotective streak, thinks it's up to her to protect her older sister, Jadine, an enchantress who's also a paranoid hypochondriac. So, whenever a male comes along trying to use Jadine, Jackie gets rid of them, in a non-conventional way. When the last person Jacquelyn expects, a certain vampire she's had a not so little crush on, seems to be creeping around on her sister, she has no choice but to get rid of him, too. In front of witnesses. Only to find out one second too late that she had it all wrong.

Victor, like many males, has issues expressing how he truly feels. When he finally decides it’s time to stop running from fate and claim his mate, he goes to her sister for advice. But, creeping in and out of Jadine’s place like a thief in the night leads the very person he wants to win over to draw all the wrong conclusions. Which leads to him trading in his pale good looks for a white beard and a red velvet suit.

Now that the town knows Jacquelyn is the one behind all of the disappearances, and thinking she’s killed all of those that are missing, they're out for her blood. And the only one who can save her is, well, Santa. But will he be able to make it back to her before it’s too late?

Enjoy a brand-new tale of how Santa Clause came to be.

Prologue

The Yule log crackled in the fireplace, making the room feel nice and warm. While the smells of apple, cinnamon, and other fresh baked holiday treats permeated the air. The only sound to be heard was the creak of the rocking chair as the children jumped onto her lap. “Listen closely, and I’ll tell you the tale of how Santa Clause truly came to be. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful enchantress. Her ebony locks cascaded in thick, black waves down to the middle of her back. Her skin was the same color of the sweetest chocolate, with curving eyelashes surrounding shimmering, golden eyes encased in a rounded, angelic face that belied a look of innocence. She possessed a voluptuous body that most humans would call overweight, but her weight was in all the right places, and made most of the other supernatural beings fall in love with her at first sight. If not love, at least lust. Her name was Jadine Lanstross.
She was a fun and loving free spirit, and her powers were more than formidable, though she didn’t use them very often. Jadine was forever afraid that if she overtaxed her powers, one day she might no longer have them. Most thought her silly for it, thought it was a waste to let so much magick go untapped. Jadine figured if she was going to be alive for at least a millennium she wasn’t taking any chances of doing so without magic. Yes, even an enchantress can be paranoid and a hypochondriac; it’s not just a human thing.
Her sister, Jacquelyn, thought she was a waste of magic and space. It wasn’t always that way, because Jacquelyn used to adore her older sister. When Jacquelyn was a small child, she used to look up to Jadine. She followed behind her like a lovesick puppy dog, wanting so much to be just like her. But, just as human females had the tendency to turn into cold-hearted bitches during puberty, Jadine did not, but Jacquelyn did. Unlike most human females, Jacquelyn didn’t grow out of it. Everything became convoluted in her mind and took on a new, much darker light. Even though their parents loved them both equally, Jacquelyn grew tired of the way they doted on Jadine, acting as though she was a piece of fragile glass they had to keep protected because of how sensitive she was. Just because Jacquelyn didn’t cry at every drop of the dime like her big sister, it didn’t mean she didn’t want to be shown the same amount of attention. The knowledge that Jadine’s powers surpassed her own, yet she hardly ever used them, felt like a slap in the face. Jacquelyn thought her sister was a fucking idiot for even thinking she would run out of magic, which made her wish she could just syphon it from her and use it for herself. They say there is a thin line between love and hate. Jacquelyn both loved her sister, and hated her fucking guts.
What really heated Jacquelyn’s blood was the fact that she was model-thin, perfect latte complexion, with eyes the color of a metallic midnight blue sea, and thick, luscious dark brown locks of hair flowing down her back. Yet it was Jadine that all the males fawned over, competing for her devotion as they continuously attempted to court her. If it wasn’t for fickle human men, Jacquelyn would probably still be a virgin, and she was already pushing one hundred years of age, which was more like twenty-five in human years.
But, none of them meant her sister any damn good, but Jadine was too rainbow-eyed to ever realize it. The ironic part? Jadine was in such fear of using up her magic that she failed to notice how the males she bedded all walked away a little more powerful. While most men adored Jadine, her poor fool sister tended to choose all the wrong ones—the rule breakers, heart takers, and just plain assholes. She was so busy seeing the best in everybody that she became blind to their worst parts. Since Jacquelyn loved her sister more than she hated her, she did away with the fucktards who hurt her one by one.
Oh, she didn’t kill them, if that’s what you’re thinking. Jacquelyn was far more creative than that. Since the majority of them acted like children anyway, she cast a spell on them to look the age they acted like, and threw in pointy ears for good measure, so they couldn’t even attempt to mix in amongst humans. Wouldn’t do to have any of the vampires or shifters confused for regular humans. She also cast them far away from their alcove, that was hidden from human eyes, to the coldest, most desolate land in the north.
She had a special dislike for vampires in general, due to how they always teased her, saying how she didn’t have enough meat on her bones to hold the amount of blood needed to feed even a baby vampire. So, she tacked on an added extra to their spell; they would only feed on one night out of the year, and only a small amount from each victim they fed from. She did give them the ability to flash or teleport, so they could do so undetected, but they had to leave a small gift for each human. And what better day to do that than on the eve of the humans’ most famed holiday, Christmas?
But there was one vampire in particular that set her blood boiling. He had been a thorn in her side since grade school. Enchantress’ were a different sect of witches—more powerful, more long-lived—and they were practically immortal, like the vampires. Which is how many of them ended up being together, most quite literally grew up together. This particular asshat was the ringleader of all of the teasing, and he continued to pester her well after their schooling was finished.
Then the tall, handsome, drool-worthy fucktard had the audacity to start seeing Jadine in secret. He never took her sister out on a proper date, always met with her alone. She would catch him coming in and out of Jadine’s home with a dumbass grin on his face. Would catch them together in various places talking, then they would quickly stop as soon as they saw her.
Honestly, who did he think he was? With his long, thick, jet black hair that sat just past his muscular shoulders. His hard but beautiful features looked as though he had been chiseled from stone and brought to life. He had gunmetal grey eyes, surrounded by eyelashes so thick and long any male or female would envy them. And his body? It was no wonder he was such an arrogant, cold-hearted, jack—”
“Woman, are you telling that story again?”
“Of course, dear. It is their favorite Yuletide story.”
“Well, could you at least lay off on calling this poor, misunderstood male so many cruel names?”
She laughed a little at his mock outrage, then replied with a smile as she winked at him, “Anything for you. Now, children, where were we?”

Six Sentence Sunday

#SixSentenceSunday #Hybrids #Underlayes

Here are six sentences from Hybrids, releasing June 5.

With all our thoughts still in sync, we lifted them up again and suspended them in midair as though we were grabbing each of them by their throats. The Amazons reached up to their necks, scrambling for purchase on hands that weren’t physically there. This time it was I who spoke. “Go back and tell your king he has no authority here. If he would like to speak with the princess or relay a message to her, send an emissary.”
Without any further ado, we flashed them all right back to King Sundiata’s court, looking like three broken pets. As they disappeared from our sight, Tia said, “By the way, Xena said she wants her clothes back.”
Which was followed by Elyssia saying, “Wow, did we do that?”
All I could do at that point was shake my head at my two sisters, “You guys really watch way too much human television.”

“This is the first book I have read by this author and I only have one word … WOW. Loved this book from the first page. It was a great short read with lovable characters (Anya being my favourite). Looking forward to reading more of the series.”

Anya has never been one for the spotlight, but her family seems to now be front and center, and the talk of the town in Underlayes. In the aftermath of her mother’s death, the discovery of said mother’s deceit, and Anya's half-sister getting ready to challenge her own father for the witches’ throne, keeping a low profile may prove to be difficult. Add in the fact that she’s pregnant, by her female mate, and it may turn out to be impossible.

Kierra has never been one for many words. So if she were forced to explain how she impregnated Anya, it probably wouldn’t be easy for her. Especially since the truth would mean revealing her origins; she’s not a vampire, or even anything close to it. And living in a realm where her kind isn’t allowed may cause a few ramifications. Plus, should the kid call her Mom, or Dad?

Jump right back into the world of Underlayes where this magical family takes dysfunction to brand new heights.

Here are six sentences from my up and coming release, Hybrids, Underlayes 1.5

“You really don’t know how to sneak up on anyone, do you?” was the greeting we were met with once within ten feet of the Racquell wannabe. “But don’t worry. I’m too weak to flash.”
“Well, I never said stealth was my strong suit.”
“Neither was smarts,” she said, right before doing the last thing either of us expected her to do. She turned around with a gun in her hand and shot me, in the head.
My last words before I blacked out were, “Who the fuck brings a gun to a witch fight?”

Release Day Blitz: The Succubus, The Demon, & The Witch

The Succubus, The Demon, & The Witch
By T. A. Moorman
Published by After Glows Publishing 3/27/2018
Paranormal/Supernatural

Blurb:
In Underlayes, a dimension separate from our own, where all mystical creatures reside, lies an orphanage for seemingly cast-off children, known as the Abbey. Children who are born from two or more factions. There they learn both who and what they truly are, and what powers they have lying within. What these children do not know is they were put there for their own good, for their protection, not because they were unwanted or unloved. In fact, the very opposite is true. Many would kill to get their hands on these children.

As Jelissa comes of age, she is about to learn the hard way to what lengths one such being is willing to go.

Jelissa has been a resident of the Abbey for as long as she has been alive. She has also never known what she is, besides being part witch. At the age of twenty-five, she will learn just what types of blood run through her veins. She will also find out much more—that she is also the long-lost princess almost no one even knew existed.

Tialanna secreted her only child away for her own protection. Before she can tell Jelissa the truth, Jelissa is kidnapped. All Tialanna’s greatest fears unfold before her very eyes, and her past comes back to haunt her in more ways than one.

As most do when they come of age, Jelissa will learn the hard way that adult life isn't all it’s cracked up to be. And Tialanna learns the hard way that if you don’t learn from your past, it will come back and bite you on the ass.

Tialanna and her band of unmerry misfits are in a race against the clock to rescue Jelissa. Will they find her in time? And if they do, will they be able to save her from a danger they hadn’t anticipated: herself?

Laina then did something she never would have done had she been in her right mind, but right then she was, as they say, high as a damn kite. She flashed herself down to the human dregs who had not volunteered to be donors. The ones who had spent their worthless lives preying on other humans; using, abusing, and some even murdering their own kind for nothing more than sport. Now they were the prey. Usually she never strayed down there because seeing any of their memories was the last thing she wanted, but she did hear talk of what each of them had done to end up in their predicaments.
This one in particular she had heard the female guard whispering about right before they had learned of the kidnapping of her cousin. This formerly arrogant, piece of shit human was much worse than just a womanizer, but a user and an abuser in the worst way. He preyed on single mothers who were slightly overweight, with self-esteem issues and a little bit of money, building up their confidence, making them fall madly in love with him while convincing them he felt the same way, tricked them into believing they would be together forever. He would even go so far as to include the children, acting as though he loved them as well and they were going to be the perfect family; even had the smaller ones calling him Daddy.
Then he would conveniently lose his job and begin asking for help with this and that, to the point where she was basically taking care of him. When the woman would begin to catch on that he really didn’t give a damn about her, he would start with slight insults, then the cheating and lying, then verbal and emotional abuse until she couldn’t take it anymore and ultimately dumped him.
The way he ended up down here was the last woman he had been with was part witch, and he’d treated her worse than all the others. He’d hurt her so badly her cry could be heard all the way in Underlayes by all the most powerful witches. Her aunt especially wanted him as a special treat, and to torture the Hel out of him. See, this halfling witch had fallen in love with him way before he became the lowlife he was, and he took full advantage of the fact. He swept her off her feet and moved her in with him, at first so they “could help each other out.”
When he lost his job, however, she became the main provider, just like all the others she had known nothing about. But, when she became impregnated by him, she could no longer work. And even though this child was indeed his without a shadow of a doubt, he still did to her what he did to all the rest: began treating her like a worthless piece of garbage once she had nothing left to give to him. He depleted all her savings accounts, played a major part in helping her to lose her job, even made her lose her car, and forced her to move back home with a family who openly hated her, with yet another child to raise on her own.
So Laina paid him a brief visit, not to feed, because she wanted none of his memories. No, this one she only wanted to make bleed and suffer. Flashing into his barren cave of a cell, with nothing inside it besides a chamber pot and stalagmite, she made quick work of stripping him down to nothing, moving so fast he had no chance to scream or even see his tormentor. She then began by ripping off the piece he held so dear and shoving it into his mouth before he could so much as whimper. Then she continued by tearing his skin to shreds, beginning with the face that gave females false hope and shattered dreams, then down to his chest. When she got to the arms that gave a deceptive sense of comfort and security, she ripped them off and threw them across the cell.
She made short work of him after that, saving his cold-ass heart for last, snatching it out of his chest even though he was already dead at that point, crushed the cold, no longer beating organ in her hand, and laughed like a rabid hyena as she did so.
