Six Sentence Sunday

#SixSentenceSunday #WitchWars #AvailableNow

“Well, I’d better get going, I do have my death bed to get to and all. And no worries, when I do ‘come to’, I’ll just reassure them we were merely having a lovers’ spat that got out of hand. I do rather like it rough.” Laughing, he flashed away, leaving a trail of sulfur in his wake.

And I was left standing there like a deer shifter caught in the headlights. This time, I wasn’t stupid enough to ask whether the day could get any worse.

Tialanna is fated to become the queen of all Underlayes witches. She thinks the worst part of her life is the fact that she’s betrothed to a complete stranger while in love with someone else. She’s in for a rude awakening when she discovers who, and what, she truly is.

Tialanna is about to learn the truth behind several lies, because not only does her life depend on it, but so does the fate of the family she never even knew she had. But hey, life would probably just be boring if she didn't have to deal with elemental witches, vampires, demons, sorcerers, bindings, spells, lust and betrayal. Right?

***This book is intended for mature audiences only as it includes both graphic violence and graphic sex***

Witch Wars just came out last week, and the 5 Star Reviews are already rolling in…

“Witch Wars, Underlayes Book 1 by T. A. Moorman was hands down the best novel I’ve had the pleasure of reading for a while now! It may be in part that it’s my favorite genre, but there was so much more! The way the authors voice was strong yet spunky was fascinating to watch it play out...” – SLHReviews

“T.A.Moorman has done an amazing job in building a solid world! You will feel a part of the realness. The writing definitely is talent, you are pulled in from the start to the characters and world created. The characters feel real they have flaws and personalities that draw you to them…” – Cupcakes and Books

“This is the first I have read from T.A. Moorman. I was not disappointed. It had everything I look for in a book. The romance was off the charts. The twists and turns had me guessing. The only bad thing is that it ended way to soon, I was not ready to leave the world that hooked me in. I love the chemistry between characters. The flow was awesome. I'm dying for more to come, as this was a perfect setup…” – Relleman

“What can you say about a world apart from ours filled to the brim vampires, witches, and the like oh I know awesome read. I loved this book from beginning to end I literally finished this book in a matter of hours it was that great…” – Deja

He’s got a body to die for—which is hard to ignore when he skinny dips in her river every day—and swears he loves her. But as a demon hunter, Duncan is the sworn enemy of a demonoid sorceress like Cassandra. Give him another chance to break her heart? Witch, please. But when Cassandra is attacked by a werewolf, Duncan not only comes to her rescue, he helps her take on a band of magic-drunk moonshiners, fire-breathing demons, shifty shapeshifters, and a pet Sasquatch named Sugar. Welcome to Alabama. But when a portal opens up for even more hellaciousness, Cassandra has to admit that Duncan is slowly opening her heart—to a whole new world of unearthly delights... (Goodreads)

Usually with the first book in a series, it's too hard to follow along without feeling lost in a brand new world. Not with this book! Even though this is the fifth book in the series, and my first time picking up a book within it, I was able to enjoy it just as much as I would a stand-alone.

Lexis George did an excellent job at creating a story that was not only well written , but also really fun to read. The characters were well developed with very interesting personalities.

For readers who haven't picked up any of the other books in this series, I say give it a try!

Review -

First of all, let's try to clear up some of the rumors I've been hearing right now. Wicked Edge and the Realm Enforcer's Series as a whole, is NOT an MC contemporary novel. Far from it. It is a continuation of the incredible, delectable Dark Protector's series, with the focus being in the human world. The MC aspect only has to do with the Dunne brothers' ongoing investigation on the deadly drug taking out witches, Apollo. Don't get me wrong, Zanetti has used what little MC activity within these books to its full capacity making for some very adrenaline pumping fight scenes. And the rival MC? A group of Grizzly Bear shifters, so in no way shape or form are these contemporary novels.

That being said, I'm loving it. The guest appearances, the tie ins, the relationships/matings that are continuously bonding the families that fans already know and love are fangtastic, without being overwhelmingly so. The Realm Enforcers is a strong enough series to develop a fan base on its own while more than enough to keep Dark Protector fans from going into withdrawals.

Daire Dunne is more than sure that fate has planned for him to find a mate that will be obedient, docile and completely organized. He finds out just how far from the truth that is after he ends up being drugged by the "enhanced human" he brings home with him for a night of fun in the sack. What he gets is far more complications in his life than he ever thought possible, along with a possible lead on the witch helping with the making of Apollo. If he can survive the woman fate has brought kicking and screaming into his life, he may be a few steps closer to closing his case.

Cee Cee has plenty more secrets than just what her name is and her true species, and she's very good at keeping them. She has been plotting for almost thirty years revenge against the demon who killed her mate, and the time has come to put all of those crazy plans to action. As strategically as she has everything planned there should be no complications, except for the deadly enforcer she pissed by drugging once, or twice. Not that she's really keeping count or anything. Cee Cee has had her life decided for her since birth due to not having the same powers as her brethren, but now her time has come to show everyone how strong she truly is. But will she survive to enjoy the outcome?

Fast-paced, action packed edge of your seat plots and characters readers can't help but love. This is a Paranormal novel to be loved regardless of gender. A true must read, right along with the rest of the series.

Review: Rise of the Fae

Rise of the Fae (ARC Review)
The Society Book 2
Published November 10, 2015 by Lyrical Press

"Its hard to find someone who can love all parts of you, the good along with the bad. Especially when have more than one person living inside of you."

Synopsis -

In a post-virus New World, authentic humans are a hot commodity. And The Society rules.

Neeman has tried everything to overcome the pain of both heartbreak and being forcibly turned into a vampyr. When he meets the headstrong Selene in a nightclub, she could be the change he needs. Her beautiful human-like features stand out among the vamps, and he has no choice but to bring her back to his Tracking Squad’s compound before she gets herself killed.

Charged with stopping a demon invasion, Selene has been sent back to the Earth Realm by the Fae. But en route, she loses the talisman that can keep her darker nature, and her impulses, under control. With Vampires now ruling Earth there are more vices than ever to distract her from her mission. Especially Neeman, whose hard body and piercing gaze awakens a primal desire within her. He’s the only one who can protect her from The Society, and from even darker forces on the horizon…but he can’t protect her from himself. (Goodreads)

Review -

In Reign of the Vampire, Rebekah R. Ganiere introduced us to a new breed of vampires, with three distinct classifications; the Vampires whom were born, the vampyr who were bitten and the vamps who were victims of an experiment gone horribly wrong. Readers also learned that the human race was close to extinction, as well as the existence of demons. This action packed addition to the series introduces the fae, and Tinkerbell they are not.

By the end of Reign of the Vampire, most were thinking of Neeman as a whiny, conceded bitch. Before getting to the end of Chapter one those feelings will completely change. Readers will get a much more in depth look at the man and start seeing him as much more than just a jealous ex. By the middle of the book he will develop an even bigger cheering squad than Mason had.

Neeman never wanted to become a vampyr and has always hated and mistrusted that part of himself, and always mourned his mortal life. Having been able to find comfort within Dannika and then losing her just made things seem all the worse. But when a seemingly harmless 'human' walks onto the dance floor of his bar of choice, his entire world gets flipped upside down real quick. The vixen seems to be just looking for trouble in the worst possible way, and looking to make his head split in two. And though he can't seem to keep track of whether or not her eyes our purple or green, the more he learns about her, the more he wants her. But trouble seems to just follow in her wake and he knows she is hiding something that could destroy what little peace left in this plain of the Earth.

Most people have a metaphorical hidden inner demon, some like Selene have a very real hidden inner demon. One hell bent on causing chaos and destruction wherever she goes. That isn't her biggest problem. She has been sent back to Earth, something she couldn't be more joyous about if it hadn't come with the mission she's been sent on. If she goes through with what it is she's supposed to do, not only will she lose what little family she has left, but the one male she has come to love. And while the vampires may be sick and twisted in their own ways, they have at least kept up some semblance of peace.  The same won't be said if the fae or demons have their way.

This book is for true fans of the lore and vampires who most definitely do not shine unless they're glistening with sweat, or blood. Full of action, blood, guts, chaos, mayhem, plot twists, characters full of life and some romance thrown in between. A series to be enjoyed by any gender, so long as they are not squeamish. Though this book can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading book 1 first.

Review: Wicked Ride

Wicked Ride by Rebecca Zanetti (ARC Review)
The Realm Enforcers Book 1
Published June 23, 2015 by Lyrical Press
5 Blazing Spheres of Fire!

Synopsis -

If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks… (Goodreads)

Review -

When coming off from a fangatasically sensational series most authors get either tons of hate mail for the way it was ended, or for ending it period, or they get even more letters and emails asking for more. Some push out one last book or novella to appease their fans. Others like Zanetti  create a spin-off series. Avid readers know that often times that truly doesn't work out too well, as there is usually either too much or not enough of the characters from the original series involved within the new story-line. On very rare occasions readers are lucky enough to come across an author with the ability to pull off the perfect combination; Jeannine Frost, Rachel Mead, J. R. Ward and now Rebecca Zanetti.

Phenakite/Planekite/PK, or as I call it Substance P, the mineral that is deadly to witches, has made its way to the states in the form of a drug named Apollo. A drug that will make as regular overdose look like an act of mercy. A drug that the Realm cannot allow to be left on the streets or let it make its way back across the border. Who better to send to eliminate this problem but the Realm Enforcers; Kellach, Adam and Daire Dunne, with a couple of tagalongs that fans of the Dark Protectors will be more than happy to see.

Alexandra Monzelle of the Seattle Police Department is in for a rude awakening when a routine bust becomes anything but when flames start coming off of her perp, and strange, drop dead gorgeous man with an Irish brogue walks into the alley, and into her life. The daughter of a notorious drug dealer, Alex has made it her life's purpose to get drugs and dealers off of the streets. When a drug turns up in her home town that is so deadly as to incinerate its users very organs, she is more determined than ever. The problem is Alex can't seem to catch a break in the case and every lead she gets seems to keep pointing to Kellach Dunne,  mysterious man that is anything but. While her instincts and her walled up heart tell her he must be innocent, can she ignore all of the evidence leading her straight to her doorstep. Even though her hormones continue to lead her straight into his arms.

Kellach Dunne has been charged with not only clearing Seattle of a drug with the potential of becoming a weapon to be used against his kind, but to also keep an eye two of the Kings nephews'. While its a steady debate over which charge is the bigger threat to his own hide, his heart is being threatened by the local Garda. Which shouldn't be too big of a problem since she isn't an enhanced human and therefore couldn't possibly be a mate to him. Right? All he has to do is find the man/woman behind the drug, keep the humans from learning about his kind, learn the true purpose and targets of the drug, keep the hotheaded female garda safe and off of his trail, and keep two hotheads from getting themselves killed. No big deal for a big bad Realm Enforcer. Just a dramatically huge, entertaining dilemma.

Fans, new and old alike will fall in love with the Dunne brothers with this no-holds-barred first book in the series. This fast paced, action packed truly Wicked Ride is truly a must read for all Paranormal lovers of any gender.

Chapter 2: The Succubus, The Witch and The Vampire

This work by no means should be duplicated, reused, reprinted or reposted in any way, shape or form. This is an unprotected proof. Opinions are welcome, piracy is not. 18& older only should this content.

Chapter 2

Meanwhile, that chaos was beginning to rein in the orphanage of Underlayes.

Blowing the doors off the hinges of what appeared to be a simple cottage, not caring that by doing so removed all form of glamour hiding it for what it truly was. An enormous Gothic Cathedral, built to house all sorts of beings and keep them hidden and protected, turrets reaching the darkened moonlit skies. Sentry Gargoyles that were once perched upon the rooftop crunched beneath the Queens booted feet, she hissed as she realized she was walking among the remains of long-time friends. Friends of who have now given their very lives protecting that which she tried her damndest to keep hidden from the world. Just the thought of the excruciating pain they must have endured being crushed while in their stone form sent chills up her spine. No more would they sail the skies, nor would they protect what lay behind these hollowed walls as vigilantly as only a Gargoyle could. What truly made her cringe was imaging what creature could have welded such power to do so, and the fact that the being now had Jelissa in their clutches. Just as the Queen began to enter, flaming with rage, quite literally, flames swirling around her irises she heard faint hiss off to her side. Turning and crouching slightly, Queen Tialanna let out a hiss of her own ready to attack at the slightest provocation. Focusing more closely on the rumble she caught a slight movement.

“My…Queen”, the faint whisper came from the direction of the debris, “…please. Tia.”

As badly as she wanted to have hoped that hearing that voice meant there was at least one survivor amongst the carnage, she knew better. There was far too much rumble littering the ground for a whole body to be intact. And while this dimension may have many beings with the ability to regenerate a limb, a Gargoyle was not among that list. Stiffening her spine, Queen Tialanna begrudgingly made her way towards a voice she knew all too well.

“Dear Goddess, why?” She seethed between her fangs. Walking slowly at first, Tia picked up her speed with the last few steps, knowing she could not avoid the inevitable. “Ebrahim, how could this have happened?” She asked more to herself than anyone else as she knelt down beside the Gargoyle whom had once stood sentry on her own childhood home.

“End. Me. Please..” He from lips that were part stone, part flesh. Peering more closely, Tialanna was coming to realize to her sheer horror that all of the Gargoyles had been destroyed mid shift. Severed arms and legs interspersed with wings and talons of stone, some still writhing in agony while most had mercifully moved on. In broken words he begged, “I cannot…shift. Too much pain. Nor…can I heal. Nor…move on.”

Knowing what was being asked of her, yet dreading it all the same, Tia knew this was not something she be able to do alone. “ELYSSIA!” She bellowed out to her sister, a sister whom she prayed to the Goddess could shed some as to what had happened, and how.

Flashing, molecules unforming then reforming at her sister’s side, trying and failing desperately to contain her very own rage, she could feel her ebony skin frosting over by the second. Princess Elyssia had been hiding who and what she was for the past twenty years, an elemental witch from the House of Sekhmet. Baby sister to the Queen, as well as Leader of the Royal Guard, her true elements being wind and water, though while her sister’s fire flamed when she became enraged, Elyssia frosted over with ice. Her dark ebony skin casting a pale blue luminescent tint, eyes turned to glaciers with swirling diamond flecks. Her smooth and gentle waters turned to an ice that she could wield as a weapon deadlier than any blade.

Sent here to build this very orphanage so that she could aid the Queen in hiding their family’s biggest secret, and their greatest treasure. Doing away with her “seers” robes, she flashed into her war gear; black and metallic silver leather jumpsuit with an insignia of her sisters crest, a circles of flames, steel toed knee high combat boots with throwing stars strapped to the sides, arm sheathes carrying her athames and a belt hanging diagonally along her hip holding her leather barbed whip. Whipping her long blue hair into a high ponytail before kneeling beside her sister, she heard gasps coming from inside the orphanage and knew the other “seers” would soon be joining them. The time for hiding was far from over. A slight tug came to her lips as she pictured the alarmed and surprised looks of the caretakers and children when they saw her two cohorts as the vampires they truly were. The vampires were family members from Tia’s other side. Guess Elyssia and  Tia should have taken heed from dear old Mom that secrets can never remain hidden.

Despite the dire situation they were facing, and the gruesome scene before her, she couldn’t help but chuckle to herself at the thought of her Father turning over in his grave now that she was cavorting with the 'blood sucking cretins'.

“What would you have of me, Your Highness?” Knowing how much it irked Tia for her to address her as such, she couldn’t help the jab. Even though trying to lighten the mood was a futile, and more than a little immature attempt.

“Cut the bullshit Elyssa! They have her! What the fuck are we going to do?” Fire gleaming in the banks of her eyes, Tialanna did her best to rein in at least some of her anger as flames licked up her arms. “Ebrehim protected us for most of our lives, and how do we repay him? By allowing his family and friends to be slaughtered, a truly royal way to show gratitude. If whoever took her is capable of this type of destruction, what could they be doing to her right now? This is all my fault! She doesn’t even know who she is, nor any idea why she’s been taken. As far as stupid plans go, this one was epic.”

“What else could you have done? Seriously, Tia? Not a damned thing. She wouldn’t have stood a chance at surviving even this long had we not secreted her away. We’ll find her Tia.”

“Oh, yeah? Why don’t you enlighten me on exactly how we’re going to do that?”

“Where’s Grimm?” At the mere mention of her former mentor and one of her husbands, Tia turned away from her sister, unable to make eye contact. “Tia, please don’t tell me you still haven’t-”

“No, I haven’t! When Darvyn and I got him back it was a fragile thing, if we told him then it would have broken him. An alpha werewolf, who had not only been captured and tortured, but also couldn’t even protect his mate? We kept waiting for the right moment. Dear Goddess, how am I going to tell him now?”

“Twenty fucking years, Tia? You have GOT to be kidding me!”

Anya watched on as her two sisters faught back and forth with one another from the broken doorway of the orphanage. With her platinum blonde hair hanging just shy of her waistline, extremely pail skin and the fangs she had been born with that never completely retracted, it was no wonder their mother had kept Tialanna, and not her. Anya and Tialanna are twins, if it wasn't ovious enough from the description they're fraternal. Not only do their appearances differ, but so to do their powers. Both hybrids born from the descreet union between the original Queen of the Witches and King of the Vampires. One raised by the Queen since she could be passed along as no more than a witch, the other by the King due to the undeniable vampire traits in which she possessed. While Tialanna knew nothing of her twins' existence, Anya had known all along. Her pscychic powers never allowed for much to be hidden from her. Along with being able to call on the wind, another of her abilities was also that of tremendous instinct for when she should, and should not act upon what has been shown to her. Knowing always that even though you may know the outcome of something to be tragic, sometimes you must step back and let things run its course. Otherwise, the outcome could become catistrophical. Which lead to a very lonely life, that is until someone came along that saw her resistance of being close to anyone as a challenge. Kierra has stood by Anya side throughout every storm life has leashed upon them thus far, and has never once bristled at any of the decisions Anya has been forced to make, or to ignore.

Kierra could be described as a beautiful Amazon warrior; with her sleek muscles that by no means overtake her femininity, long, thick, corse black hair that she keeps in cornrows that she can easily pull back in battle, dark, unmarred ebony skin and lush deep red lips that beg to be kissed. Her weapon of choice is that of a battle axe, though no-one can figure out where she keeps it hidden when wearing her Royal Guard uniform that doesn't leave much to the imagination. Only her beautiful wife, Anya, and Tialanna know that it waits in the ether until she has need for it. A secret they keep from everyone as it would reveal what she truly is, its' one thing to flash clothes onto your body, something only the witches, and vampires' if they are powerful enough, have the power to do, but a weapon forged in the fires of Hel's domain? Not likely. Hidden among the vampires since birth, Kierra is truly a demon with an angel for a father. Its no wonder she and Anya are perfectly mated for one another; one with a gift that could possibly make even the kindest of souls hate them, the other with an ability anyone would kill for, able to turn her feelings on and off at will. So even if Anya is forced to let even an Apocalypse take place, Kierra could quite naturally sit back with her love in her lap and enjoy the show. There are only two types that a demon cannot turn off their feelings for; their true soul mate and their children. Even with them their feelings can be muted at times.

Anya began feeling her loins heating up, a sure sign her wife was near and had sex on the brain. A sure distraction that she truly didn't need right now, even though to say she wanted it would the Goddess' honest truth. Not bothering to say a word and not heed to the open door, Kierra pulled Anya back tightly against her front slipping her hands beneath the folds of her robes knowing she wore nothing underneath, making her fight desperately to hold in a gasp as she slowly guided one hand to cup her breast and with the other slipping two fingers into her tight, wet folds.

“Hungry”, Kierra rapse in her deep, gravelly voice just as she pierced Anya's neck with her fangs, both upper and lower, thrusting her long, callused fingers ever deeper into her wet heat.

Knowing on a soul deep level that her wife became ravenous for both blood and sex in times of stress, two things that helped to shut her feelings off, Anya let Kierra take her fill. Moving her body to the rythym her wife set, she thrust images of each and every way she planned to devour her once the situation was at least marginally under control.

Just as Kierra was licking her wounds closed, Anya had a vision of exactly where her niece was being held captive. And that it was not the time to find her, yet.

Disentangling herself from Kierra and flashing out of her robe and into her own uniform of the Royal Guard, she took in the scene playing outside once again. Watching as among the rumble her brother, Bastien, and Tia's husband, Darvyn, flashed into existence before turning to her wife, “Let's go.”

Her mental to-do list growing by the millisecond; stop her sisters' from killing each other, help release  the Gargoyles from their torment, and keep the fact she knew where Jelissa was secret until the time came to help her niece.

Side by side they stepped into what just may be the beginnings of a brand new war.

Topic-  "Urban Fantasy vs. Paranormal"

To me, the main difference between urban fantasy and paranormal is based on the setting. Urban Fantasy means it’s set in a modern city setting, and Paranormal can be set at any date, time, and setting. I also associate ghosts, angels, and demons more with paranormal whereas urban fantasy usually has more fairies, vampires, and werewolves. For example, The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher are without a doubt urban fantasy: a smart-mouthed Chicago wizard/private investigator getting into trouble with the local supernatural folk, ranging from fairies to vampires to werewolves to skinwalkers. A good example of a paranormal story would be the 2005 film adaptation of the Hellblazer comic series Constantine, which directly deals with angels and demons as well as mentions of the dead reaching through to those who are still living. It is indeed set in a city, but the subject matter focuses mainly on those strange events that interrupt the everyday, whereas a lot of urban fantasy stories have the supernatural folk either out in the open, or at least somewhat acknowledged by the rest of the world, even if it’s only in certain circles.

I also think that paranormal deals with more horror elements than your average urban fantasy novel. Urban fantasy can have some creepy things happen, but for the most part it seems to be more about the spectacle and the journey, whereas paranormal novels talk about those things that go bump in the night. For my own series, I know I cross the line in both categories. The Black Parade probably fits closer into paranormal, but She Who Fights Monsters and The Holy Dark cross over into urban fantasy because of Jordan’s world expanding further than the three archangels she is friends with. She finds out about other Seers as well as the entire network of underground angels, demons, Seers, and humans who know about their existence. There’s a world behind the world, as Constantine once put it, and she’s discovering all these techniques and secrets she never knew before as the series continues. It’s an expansion on the mythos I loosely based on Paradise Lost and sections of Christianity, and that lends itself very well to a fantasy setting.

I don’t have a preference for either genre. I like reading and writing both of them because they have their own sort of flavor to them. I like the open worlds of urban fantasy novels and I like the more concentrated stories in paranormal novels. I fully intend to continue writing in either genre for my future projects because I find them so fascinating.

Chattanooga had been a nice place to live for the past ten months, a fact proven by my utter disapproval of the hotel we checked in the following night we left. The safe house was in Montpelier, Vermont and by car it was an eighteen-hour drive. However, the two of us were exhausted from the recent fights we’d had and needed some sleep so we stopped in Newburgh, Connecticut. We’d camp out here for the night and then leave first thing in the morning.

Myra worked at an office supplies store back in Tennessee, which paid alright, but neither of us were exactly swimming in cash. The hotel we chose was not of the highest caliber. The only benefits it boasted were cable television and air conditioning. I missed my thin pillows and slightly lumpy mattress back home.

We were behind schedule, but only slightly. Myra went to buy some dinner while I opted for a long, hot shower. It wasn’t a nice place to stay, but it had one admittedly awesome amenity—a handheld sprayer with plenty of settings. I stayed in until my fingertips were pruny, mulling over recent events and hoping that a clear solution would arise. No such luck. We were still on defense. I didn’t like it, not one bit. The weight hanging off my soul was starting to make my knees buckle. I had to fix this. I had to save the angels. I owed them. They had shed blood for me more than once. I wasn’t going to disappoint them, not again. Never again.

I finished rinsing out my hair and groped for the towel with my eyes closed to avoid getting any residual shampoo in them. Weirdly, my fingers hit nothing but the moist air near the rack. Frowning, I reached out farther. It wasn’t there. Had it fallen onto the floor?

“Lose something?”

I froze. A deep, mocking, dry-as-sandpaper voice. No. Please, God, let it just be my imagination.

I pried my eyes open and ducked my head around the shower curtain. There, in front of the sink, stood a tall, pale-skinned man with shoulder-length hair as black as soot and a smile as sinister as the devil himself. His eyes were the lightest hue of blue that existed and the pupils were thin and diamond-like rather than round. His features were vaguely European—small forehead, narrow nose, thin but sensual lips, arched eyebrows—but I knew he didn’t have an accent.

He clutched my towel in his long-fingered hand, the other tucked in the pocket of his easily seven-hundred-dollar black suit pants. I recognized his favorite dark color scheme—a charcoal grey button up shirt, black silk tie, and Gucci dress shoes.

“Looking good, my pet.”

The archdemon Belial was standing in my bathroom.

Book Description:

Dar helped his foster sister become the ruler of Hel, and helped her free the enslaved humans from the elves. It’s about time he helped himself – to a fun week of mayhem in the Windy City. Collapsing a few buildings and corrupting politicians is an ideal vacation for a demon in Chicago, but Dar didn’t count on a beautiful angel sabotaging his fun and putting him to work.

Asta is an angelic enforcer, scanning for demons in her assigned territory and sending them to an early grave. Unfortunately, the latest trespasser from Hel has diplomatic immunity - but immunity doesn’t mean she can’t coerce him into helping her track and dispatch the powerful demon that’s been cycling in and out of her radar for the last few days.

Demons are the sworn enemies of every angel, but Asta must learn to trust Dar or the dark presence that is growing in Chicago will spread - and this particular enemy has the skills and knowledge to send human civilization back to the dark ages.

She has one week left as an enforcer before she returns to her heavenly home – one week to catch an elusive monster, and one week to safeguard her heart from the demon who is determined to seduce her to sin.

Excerpt 3

She gave him a watery smile.  “And flying?  I’m sure you fly all the time, since you have immunity and don’t need to fear death at the hand of us angels.”

Don’t look down, don’t look down.

“Uhhh, I don’t fly.”

The angel’s eyes widened.  “You don’t fly?  I know you all lost your wings in the Fall, but I thought you could still manifest those leathery bat-type wings.  What do you mean; you don’t fly?”

“I . . . we . . . .” Dar made the mistake of looking down and felt himself break out in a sweat, his hands white knuckled as he gripped the rim of the roof.  “Not all demons can manifest wings.  I can’t. I don’t fly.”

Silence fell, and Dar felt her pity.  It grated on him like sandpaper.  “I don’t want to fly.  It’s not my thing.  I’m a rat.  I like it underground in caves and tunnels.  The air isn’t my thing.”

As soon as he’d said the words, a lump settled in his throat.  She was an angel with an affinity for air, and he couldn’t fly — wouldn’t fly.  The very thought of it sent chills down his spine.

“I’ll fly you.  You need to experience it, even if just this once.  If you don’t like it, that’s fine — you don’t ever have to do it again.”

Dar tensed, his hands gripping the ledge of the roof so hard he feared it would crumble in his grasp. A hand touched his shoulder, and he jumped with an involuntary reflex.

“Trust me.  I won’t let anything happen to you, I swear.  Trust me.” Her mouth turned up in the most adorable smile ever. “I’ve trusted you these last few days.  It’s your turn.”

The demon drew a shaky breath.  It was as good a day to die as any. “Okay.  Just a short flight.”

He glanced over and saw the warm approval in her face.  Moonlight and some inner glow lit her like a beacon in the night.  Golden brown.  Everything about her was like a warm loaf of bread right out of the oven.  Maybe he was wrong.  Maybe she’d drop him from a thousand feet up, or drown him in Lake Michigan.  It didn’t matter, because he was lost in the beautiful joy shining from her dark eyes.

“I’ll even fly you in your rat form.  How’s that?  Both of us conquering our fears at the same time.”

Who says I’m afraid?  It’s what Dar wanted to say, but instead something totally different came out. “Right.  You’ll be more likely to panic and drop me as a rat than as a demon.  I know how you feel about rodents.”

The brown eyes widened then Asta threw back her head and laughed.  It was a deep, smoky, musical laugh, and Dar felt his hands loosen on the roof ledge.

“I swear on my eternal soul that I will not drop you.”  The angel’s eyes grew soft.  Dar could have sworn he saw something in them that was more than affection.  “I will never let you go, Dar, no matter how red your beady eyes are, or how your whiskery nose twitches, or how much your sharp claws dig into my skin.  I will never let you go.”

Dar took a deep breath and stood.  “I can’t promise I won’t puke on you.”

Asta rose, huge wings of brown and gold extending full-width from her back.  “Vomit is not included in this excursion.  You puke on my shirt and you’re going for a swim.”

Marked Review

Marked by Rebecca Zanetti

"The highly anticipated story of Zane, Janie and Kalin was well worth its weight in blood.'

Synopsis -

Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he’s worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice… (Goodreads)

Review -

A love story that began and has been building heavily since the beginning of the Dark Protectors series finally comes to a head. Janet, Kalin and Zane are children no longer and decisions need to be made, as well as sacrifices. The build up of this relationship has been deep and intense. When the three finally meet within the flesh outside of their safe dream world, sparks, fists, heat and blood will fly.

Janie always knew the one she would choose to be with, having felt a deep love for Zane from the very moment he stepped into her dreams. Kalin always a dark mystery whom she considered a friend, also knowing as she grew older his feelings for her went beyond the realm of friendship. Though Janie would never say the Kurjan truly loved her, seeing the murderous psycho her grew up to be there's no way he possibly even begin to understand such an emotion. Janie also knew that though she loved Zane, their love may not stand a chance one the prophecy she was to fulfill came to fruition. Which was much easier to accept before she had him by her side and their love morphed into something consuming both their hearts and souls. To end the war and bring peace she is willing to give up her own life, but not him or her family. But, when you have psychotic enemies determined to bring entire races down to the brink of extinction, and the patience that comes with immortality, losing most everyone she loves becomes almost inevitable.

Zane has been a mystery to the entire Karys family, including his Janie Belle. They all knew he was part vampire, but when he enters the peace talks behind his uncle, the shock of his genetics just may be enough to start a secondary war. Upon learning who he truly is inside and out, however, they discover he is more ally than enemy. A boy turned killer, Zane has been sacrificing everything just to keep his family safe. But when asked to sacrifice the one woman he has ever loved other than his mother, his uncle sets in motion a series of events that will lead to only one outcome, either Zane or his uncle must die.

Rebecca Zanetti truly delivers in the highly anticipated Marked. Readers will be more than pleased in how the story turns out, and will shed more than a few tears due to laughter, and heartache. Action packed from the very beginning, a bumpy ride sure to please all Dark Protectors' fans. Marked will answer both questions asked and unasked, as well as giving updates on all of the couples fans have come to love, and a conclusion safely ends this chapter within the Realm and begins a new one with the next generation of vampires, shifters, witches, demons and so much more. This entire series' is a must read for all paranormal lovers who need heat, lust, love, blood and gore.

Deceptions Review

Deceptions by Sean Hayden
DemonKin Book 2
Re-Published October 21, 2014 by Untold Press
4.5 Demonic Fangs

"When finally meeting your proverbial parent, the last thing you expect to hear is, 'Would you do me a favor and kill yourself now?'"

Synopsis -

The great State of California has elected themselves a new governor…and he’s a vampire! Many hope it will bring some peace between the humans and vampires. Many don’t, which could be the reason someone is trying to kill him. Knowing they can’t protect him from supernatural terrorist attacks, the Department of Homeland Security turns to the only people who can, the FBI. More importantly, their only vampire agent. Ashlyn may be Governor Greer’s only hope, but can she keep him alive without starting a war of her own? When the lines begin to blur and it becomes difficult to separate her enemies from her allies, Ashlyn may end up doing just that. (Goodreads)

Review -

Seeing as how the great citizens did vote Arnold Schwarqenager for governor of their lovely state, it really isn't that far a stretch to believe they would also elect a vampire. Though electing the terminator was a lot less detrimental to their health than Governor Greer, a very ancient vampire. And while the humans may have been eager to have him in a ruling position over them, the vampires may not share those feelings. A fact made clear after several attempts on his life. Since human guards and agents alike seem to have quite a it of a hard time staying alive while attempting to protect him, who better to call in than the one agent they have that seems practically indestructible? Problem with that is by the end of things, Ashlyn may be more than ready to either let the would-be assassins have at him, or just do the job herself.

Ashlyn's life has been in a huge upheaval ever since losing her aunt. Not only has she been forced out into a world she knows virtually nothing about, but she is still struggling to find exactly what she is. She seems to stand out in a whole new vampire classification all on her own and been named the Verminator, as she is a predator of predators. Not sure how she truly feels about being an FBI agent she continues on as one since she really doesn't know anything else, nor anyone, besides Marcel; who insists Ashlyn learn vampire etiquette before she gets herself killed from sheer ignorance of their world. Having already lost one partner, Ashlyn is bound and determined not to lose another. But with this assignment that is a task that seems like mission impossible.

Ashlyn also meets a couple her relatives, one in which shows her a glimpse into the past and introduces her, so to speak, to dear old dad. Not sure if what she has seen is reality, Ashlyn is more than happy to live in the land of denial. Until she another rather unfriendly character that calls her 'cousin', and there are quite a few resemblances that she cannot overlook.

Fast paced action from beginning to end, and a surprising conclusion that will have readers eyes bucking out of their heads. Usually in most mysteries, the reader comes to the conclusion long before the hero/heroine, not the case here. The realization hits right at the same moment it does for Ashlyn. Full of violence, mayhem, more than a little comic relief and a tear jerking end, all true vampire lovers will gladly sink their fangs into this one and latch on until they have drained every last word dry. Deceptions and the Demonkin series as a whole is a true must read.
