Bloody Weekend Reads

Looking for something to sink your fangs into for the long Holiday weekend?

Hear are a couple that have been re-released at a very low price.  Warning, these books are not intended for the squeamish, so if you're a fan of Twilight, I heard Bunnicula has a new book out...

TheGuardians
The Guardians Book 1
Re-Released April 13, 2014 by Vamptasy Publishing

Synopsis -

I thought I had life all figured out. We live. We suffer pain. We die. Death never bothered me much. It is love that scares the hell out of me, because love makes you weak, and in my line of work there is no room for that. My name is Gianna Botticelli. I am the daughter and only female employee of a Los Angeles mafia boss. Today was supposed to be like any other day, and then Caleb walked into my life.
He is sexy and mysterious and knows things he shouldn’t. I don’t like it at all, but I can’t help the way he makes me feel inside. There is something different about him. What is he? All I know is that after meeting Caleb, things will never be the same as he introduces me into his world, an unknown world where the battle of good versus evil rages on.
Sacrifices will be made, hearts will break and lives will be taken. How far am I willing to take this journey, I keep asking myself? If I have to sacrifice myself to save everyone and everything then the answer is easy. All the way.

The Revelation by Jennifer Raygoza
The Guardians Book 2
Re-Released May 20, 2014

Synopsis -

It's been three years since I have turned, and I am not sure who I am anymore. I don't even know if I want to be what I have become. Is love enough to keep me alive inside even if I am dead? How can I find peace within myself when everything around me screams war and death? How will things end when one man holds my eternal love and another wants me dead? There is no end as far as I can see. It’s just the beginning because I can feel the darkness approaching. It wants me. It calls for me by name. I will keep on fighting until it arrives. The problem is, if I don’t learn to shut off my emotions I may just become my own worst enemy. Is it all too much, or not enough? These are the things a vampire queen, new mother and woman fighting with her past human morals must ask herself. I have one more important question to answer that could change everything. IS THIS REALLY WHAT I WANT?

-The red jeweled necklace the coven called The Eye of the Queen sat right at my cleavage. I ran one finger over my pale skin and red lips as I looked at my reflection in the mirror. Queen was my title, but I knew different. I was just a beautiful killer.

About the Author:

Jennifer Raygoza lives in Corona, California with her husband and children. She developed a love for writing poetry at the young age of twelve. She did not want to become a writer when she was young.

She had dreams of becoming a Marriage Counselor and majored in Psychology when she was older. Although that dream did not work out she still councils relationship advice to friends and family.

In 2013 she published her first book called The Guardians. Originally it was a story written for fun, and out of curiosity was self published.

Little did she know that it would be a hit with vampire lovers. Fans encouraged her to write part two in the series. She was currently working on another project, but pushed it back to write part two in the series to please the fans. The third and final book in The Guardians series is in the works set to come out 9/2014.

Fun Info: Rumor has it that part one in this series sat around on a desk for five years unfinished, and once it was completed she held back publishing it for fear that no one would like it.

Marked by Hades Review

Marked by Hades by Reese Monroe (ARC Review)
Bound by Hades Book 2
Published April 14, 2014
4 Demonic Fangs

"Full of non-stop action, brutality and mayhem, but..."

Review -

Kind of have mixed emotions about this one.  While it was a good read, having all of the qualities I look for in a great read; plot, violence, Dark Romance, deadly characters, brutality, fangs, blood.  What I didn't like, and pretty much left me extremely pissed off, was the outcome of the heroine, Yvonne/Dyre.

Imagine waking up with nothing, not the shirt on your back nor any clue as to who, or what, you are.  Only two things you know for certain, your name and the fact that if you so much as touch a living thing, from plant to human being, they turn to dust.  Which is truly an ingenious punishment for a former Demon who craves nothing more than touch.  A punishment delivered by none other than the Devil himself.  What Lucifer doesn't realize is how that punishment may effect him in the long run.

Justin has been bound and determined to never ever take a Mate, there just isn't one for him.  Sure, he is ecstatically happy that Theo found his Mate Sadie, after-all a Guardian, an immortal charged with sending Demons to the eternal flames of Hades, needs his/her Mate to come into their full powers, but he is just a Companion, what would he need one for.  Well, not only will his Ahava, mate, receive her mark, when he learns who she is he's in for a shock.  But when he learns what she is, and the part she played in the kidnapping that almost took not only his brother's life but his as well.  Just because she receives her mark, and he his, does not mean he has to go through with the mating.  A decision he will regret when she is taken away from him.

Everyone is in a desperate search to find the remaining Artifacts, the only known weapons able to cause harm to Lucifer.  Along the way they will learn that the Great One isn't the only one to send his creations on journeys to keep them motivated.  Full of love, lust, violence, mayhem, blood and brutality, and characters readers will both love and be able to connect with.  And a bittersweet happy almost ending leaving readers pissed off for the heroine, a dreadful reminder that not everyone gets a happy ending.

While this Marked by Hades can be read as a stand alone, as I did, readers may want to pick up book one first, Forged by Hades, to get a real feel of what is going on.  And to see Dyre as she was before.

Vampires: The Evil, The Sadistic and The Bloody....or Not

The world of Vampires seems to be getting romanticized more and more in this day and age.  I recently had a conversation with a Horror writer on this very topic.  Since most of the books I reviewed on this site have PNR, he was wondering if I read the true nitty-gritty-down-and-dirty-bloody vampire books.  Of course I do!  Its just I do not discriminate, I love all things Vampire oriented.  Let me rephrase that, I read all things Vampire with an open mind, with or without love being involved in the plot.  What truly makes a great Vampire book in my eyes is having every aspect detailed within the book; blood, origin, violence, lust, death, three dimensional characters and a decent plot.

Twice Tempted Review

Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost
Night Prince Book Two
Published March 26, 2013 by Avon
5 BLOODY FANGS!!!!

"They say never judge a book by its' cover, but this one is just as hot as it looks!!"

Summary -

Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges...

Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity...

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.  (Goodreads)

Review

What's the best way to judge how good a book truly is?  How long it takes you to read it.  Read this one in a day and a half, all while juggling the kids, work and friggin' Girl Scouts.  Though I still regret reading Up From The Grave BEFORE reading Twice Tempted, since it gave away such a big secret, "seeing" the way it played out was phenomenal.

While I am still extremely hurt to have had to say goodbye to Cat and Bones, I am equally as glad to have Leila and Vlad.  To say these two are another dynamic duo to be a drastic understatement.  With his pyrokenisis and her electrical currents, not to mention both of their temperaments, they truly know how to heat up a page.  And if there was ever a true match for Vlad the Impaler, Leila has truly proved to be it.

Vlad has kept his heart wrapped in a cage of ice for centuries, not an easy thing to do when you're the Prince of Flames.  So should come as no wonder that he finds it difficult to allow himself to admit is true feelings for Leila.  After-all, they both went into this relationship under the agreement of remaining strictly physical.  And we all know which road is paved with good intentions.  Leila comes to her final straw after the proposal she is given is far from what she expected, and gives Vlad an ultimatum.  When he makes the wrong decision, she does the unthinkable and leaves.  Heading back to the carnival and a whole new heap of trouble.  Leila will learn the hard way that Vlad isn't the only one who likes playing with fire, with deadly circumstances.  As she is the initial target Leila is faced with a decision of her own; to trust the man she loves and humiliated by walking away from, or the man she considers a friend and has never kept his desires a secret.  So the question becomes whether the threat on her life is an act of vengeance, a ploy at a deadly love affair or whole new party altogether.

Pages filled with blood, mayhem, betrayal, deadly desires, manipulation, heat and gruesome death, readers will not be able to put this book down until the last page.  There is never a dull moment when dealing with Vlad Basarab Dracul.  And pity the man, or woman, who dare cross him.  Both Once Burned and Twice Tempted are true must reads for true vampire lovers.  Please do not cheat yourself and read this book as a stand alone.  At least start with Once Burned, but to get the full affect, read the entire Night Huntress Universe series.  And look out for the final installment to Leila and Vlad's trilogy, due out in December, 2014.

Up From The Grave Review

Up From The Grave by Jeaniene Frost
Night Huntress Book 7
Published January 28, 2014 by Avon
5 BLOODY FANGS!!!!

"Is this the final end for Cat and Bones?"

Summary -

There’s always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives—and those of everyone they hold dear— will be hovering on the edge of the grave.  (Goodreads)

Review -

This addition to the Night Huntress series gives off the feeling of a Grand Finale. One that will leave die hard fans of the series with a since of closure, and and as though Bones and Cat have finally gotten the Happily Ever After that they both deserve. Not saying that this indeed the end  to their story, it quite possibly could be the beginning of a whole new chapter for the dynamic duo and their clan. One with more obstacles, challenges, enemies, unlikely allies and responsibilities that not even Mencheres could have foreseen.  And Readers, the opening prologue, make sure you pay extra close attention to it, because when you learn later on who the female speaking is, someone will have to pull your mouth up from the floor.

We were introduced to Madigan a few books back, and could feel the deep seeded hatred between he and Don seething from the page.  Never knowing where said hatred originated from, and neither did Bones or Cat. Now all of that is about to come to a head with a deadly outcome.  To say Don has been tight lipped about the person who not only usurped his position, but almost caused Cat to face her final death.  Now they need Don to come clean with the truth on the CIA agent once and for all, because now Tate, Juan and Cooper have gone missing and Madigan is the one behind their disappearance.  When Don continues to be non cooperative they enlist the help of Marie Leveaux, the true Queen of the Dead, to 'persuade' him. What they find out about he and Madigans former business relationship it may cause a wrift between Uncle and Niece that can never be repaired.  And it may cause an all out war in the Supernatural world.

Full of non stop action from the second you open the cover.  Frost proves once again that she is a master at her craft. Having readers wonder whether they are reading a book or watching a movie play out before their eyes.  I don't think this is the end of the series', that is just the vibe that I got off of the end. Felt like a true Grand Finale, but it may just be a new beginning.  Also, readers will be happily surprised with a fiery wedding thrown in the mix.

This is book is definitely not meant to be read as a stand alone, and should not be. Now, if you have only read the Night Huntress series and none of the books from the Night Universe, I suggest you read those as well.  This book and series are definite must reads.

Bittersweet Darkness Review

Bittersweet Darkness by Nina Croft
The Order Book 3
Published February 24, 2014 by Entangled Publishing
ARC Review
5 BLOODY FANGS!!!!

"There is no such thing as black and white, good or evil.  But there is right and wrong."

Summary -

There are no monsters, only good guys and bad guys. That’s the creed by which Detective Inspector Faith Connolly has always lived.

When Faith discovers that she has a time bomb counting down in her head, she has one goal; to solve the murder case she’s working on—a young girl who was found drained of blood—and in doing so gain closure for a long ago murder never solved. Her investigation brings her in contact with Ash Delacourt. Ash is all black leather, big guns and sexy bad attitude—definitely not one of the good guys.

As payment for a debt, Asmodai AKA Ash Delacourt, finds himself working with the Order of the Shadow Accords. He’s the demon representative on the newly formed Committee for the Integration of Mankind and well…everything else. It’s a chance to be near his daughter, make a new start, and—once he’s met the delectable detective—maybe have a little fun.

There are no monsters. But as Faith’s investigation deepens, her beliefs are eroded and for the first time, she is falling in love—with one of the bad guys. But how can she ever let Ash close when her time is running out…?  (Goodreads)

Review -

I had been waiting impatiently for this book to come ever since I read Bittersweet Magic, longing to see what was in store for one of my favorite demons, Asmodai.  I am happy to say Croft did NOT disappoint.

Asmodai has gone by many different names, Ash Delacourt, Demon of Lust, Prince of Darkness, but none does he crave more than the name Father.  After losing the only woman with the ability to break through with black heart, his wife Lily, the only woman's affection he has craved is that of their daughter he believed to be dead, Tara.  But after ordering her best friend to be brutally murdered, successfully, that seems like a pretty impossible feet.  Even after he goes to his best friend Luc, Lucifer himself, to procure a present for her.  A gift that comes with a price on his part they may lead to him falling for yet another female, a frail human woman, something he always vowed he would not do.  And that woman, with her fiery spirit and strictly black and white attitude has a ticking time bomb getting ready to go off inside of her that will cut whatever time they may have shorter than he realizes.

Faith is one of those women that lives in a world with rose colored glasses; everything is black and white, good or bad with no room for nothing in between.  A world where no ghosts or ghoulies exist.  So when she is offered a position at a government facility, by a Priest and ex-Military man no less, a faction called MI13 that is investigating Christian Roth whom they tell her is a vampire, it takes all of self-control to not fall out of her chair laughing.  Though even when undeniable physical evidence is right in her face, she still can't except it, as though an impenetrable wall comes up at the mention of the word Vampire.  A wall that has been there since her mother was murdered and her body found by Faith when she was only twelve years old.   Being forced to take the job, she refuses to spy on her former partner, Ryan, but she may cede to spy on Ash.  After-all, there is nowhere she take the attraction she reluctantly feels for him.  Not when her Government, the good guys, have deemed the people he works for as bad.  But her righteous government is about to do something so heinous that she will have to change the way she view things.

Full of action, heat, lust, violence, intrigue and most importantly characters readers will actually feel a vested interest in, Bittersweet Darkness is a true must read.  Just not if you are righteous, holier than thou, squeamish or believe that vampires should sparkle and Angels only create miracles.  Because in this world, Demons may be the not-so-bad guys and Angels the not-so-good guys.  And I am also happy to say that Croft has proven to be one of those authors with the ability to surprise even me, which is saying something after all the Paranormal books I have read.

Yes, this can be read as a stand alone, though I recommend reading the entire series'.

To save them, however, she must enter Buffalo’s vampire community and put herself into the care of Rajmund Gregor. But can she trust Raj, the dangerously seductive vampire who wants to lay claim far more than her secrets?  (Goodreads)

Review

Reynolds continues to reel readers in with another chilling tale of true Vampires'.  In the Vampire's in America series' one will not find a hint of a sparkle, nor a Vampire afraid to get his hands a little, or a lot bloody.

Becoming senile can be a dangerous thing, add to that the strength, capabilities and power of being a Master Vampire and can become deadly.  The Vampire Lord of Northeast America has been descending into madness for quite some time, no-one realizing just how had  things had become.  After-all, every child he has ever made are weak and arrogant imbeciles, except one, Rajmund Gregor.  Whom he as far away as possible when he realized just how much power Raj held.  Having to call him home when some part of his brain recognized he had lost complete control over everything going on his territory, things that could every human eye onto the Vampire community in the worst way.  Blood Houses so overcrowded no-one knows who is coming or going and blood orgies practically taking place on the lawn, women missing, including a prominent businessman's daughter.  Which has drawn the attention of the police and the media as well.  It is now up to Raj to get to the bottom of everything, with an unlikely ally in the form a little human psychic.  Now all he has to do is keep his fangs and other hard objects of his anatomy to himself long enough to solve the case.

Less blood shed than the previous two books but a lot more intrigue, the only thing keeping this from being a full 5 Fang Review is the fact that I am a stickler for detail.  I was left at the end with a LOT of questions still unanswered.  Instead of just learning Sarah's real name, it would have been nice to know what is was about her familial ties that would make the care about her in the first place.  And I very much would like to know where these vampires originated; another planet, dimension, are them demon spawn or fallen angel...

All in all it was still a great read.  And the last page will have readers screaming right along with Cyn.

Jabril Review

Jabril by D. B. Reynolds
Vampires In America Book 2 (Netgalley ARC)
Republished December 31, 2013 by ImaJinn
5 BLOODY FANGS!!!

"There's nothing more deadly than an underestimated woman with a brain and brave enough to use it."

Summary -

Houston, Texas-Cowboy boots, baseball and journeys to the stars . . . right? Wrong. Because Houston is also home to Jabril Karim, one of the eight powerful Vampire Lords who control all of North America. And as Private Investigator Cynthia Leighton will soon discover, not all Vampire Lords are created equal. For Jabril is the face of evil in the new world, a vampire who values no life but his own, who enslaves those he desires, steals whatever he covets and destroys anyone who stands in his way. Running from L.A. and its seductive Vampire Lord, Raphael, Cyn sees the Houston job as a welcome refuge, a place to get away and heal her broken heart. But Texas will be no vacation. For in Jabril Karim, Cyn will confront a true enemy, one who will go to any lengths to satisfy his lusts, enrich his coffers and expand his power. Fighting for the lives of two young sisters, Cyn's journey will take her through the streets of Houston and back to L.A., where the human police are determined to bring Raphael down for the murder of one of their own. But the danger doesn't end there. For Jabril has set his sights on Cyn, and he will stop at nothing to have her.  (Goodreads)

Review -

Cyn and Raphael are turning out to be another dynamic couple, right up there with Jean Claude and Anita Blake, you know, before the series' turned into porn, as well as Cat and Bones.  What I truly love about their relationship is the fact that Reynolds did not drag it out book after book, readers already knowing what the ultimate outcome would be.   Watching their frozen hearts unthaw and let one another in was a beautiful thing.  Especially when neither had to lose any aspect of him/herself in the process.  And what they feel for one another is truly love, not just thrown together by a predetermined fate.

Book 2 of Vampires in America is centered around Jabril Karim, a blood thirsty Vampire Lord stuck in the past where a woman should be seen and not heard.   One who enjoys the thrill of the blood, but doesn't bother with the hunt.  Though he has power to bring fear within anyone around him, he only does it for the sheer pleasure of it.  After-all, when one thinks himself a king, everything should be handed to you right down to your meals, even if that happens to be in the form of a blood-slave.  And as far as money is concerned...the scheme he has set up is so elaborate and out cold, it would do the Devil proud.  But Jabril is about to make a fatal mistake.  When one his little cash cows' escapes before he can do to her what he did to her sister, he hires two Private Investigators; one a man to truly 'get the job done' and Cynthia Leighton, but only as a way to irritate Raphael, and find out what is so special about her.  Jabril's belief that women are nothing more than tools to be used may prove to be his ultimate downfall.  Though what turns out to be the biggest surprise is the ally he seems to hold within Raphael's own court.

Reynolds does not disappoint in this second novel, in fact, the series' is seeming to get better with each book, as most good series' do.  With a no-wholes-barred take on vampire society, not being squeamish on sensitive topics, these ARE indeed true vampires, this series' is a definite must read.  While this could be a stand alone read, I recommend starting with book one to get a true feel for all of the characters.

Raphael Review

Raphael by D. B. Reynolds
Vampires in America Book 1 (NetGalley ARC)
Re-Published December 11, 2013 by ImaJinn Books
4 Bloody Fangs

"A true Vampire novel with blood, intrigue and casual death."

Summary -

Malibu, California-home to rock-and-roll gods and movie stars, the beautiful, the rich . . . and vampires.

Powerful and charismatic, Raphael is a Vampire Lord, one of the few who hold the power of life and death over every vampire in existence. Thousands call him Master and have pledged absolute loyalty on their very lives. But when, in a brazen and deadly daylight attack, a gang of human killers kidnaps the one female vampire he'd give his life for, Raphael turns to a human investigator to find his enemies before it's too late.

Cynthia Leighton is smart, tough and sexy, a private investigator and former cop who's tired of spying on cheating spouses and digging out old bank accounts. When Raphael asks for her help in tracking down the kidnappers, Cyn's happy to accept. But she soon realizes her greatest danger comes not from the humans, but from Raphael himself.

Battling Russian mobsters and treacherous vampires, and betrayed by those they trusted, Cyn and Raphael find themselves fighting for their lives while caught up in a passion of blood and violence that is destined to destroy them both.  (Goodreads)

Review

It seems as though quite a few Paranormal authors' have been re-publishing their work.  In some cases it seems like nothing more than a bid for more money now that vampire's have once again become mainstream.  Maybe even bigger than they were when most of us thirty-something's began reading vampire novels.  In cases such as this one, I am more than happy that the author did decide to republish, otherwise I would have missed a great read.

Hell hath no fury like a Vampire scorned.  Raphael,  a very powerful and deadly Vampire Lord, learns the hard way that some friends, no matter how old, are to never be trusted.  Especially friends who have envied your power from the very beginning.  And to trust them with the security of the most important person in your life, the last familial connection that you have, may not be the smartest thing to do.  So it really shouldn't come as a surprise to him to learn that she has been kidnapped, her lover dusted right before her eyes.  That doesn't however minimize the fury and rage towards Albin, the betrayer, and whomever else he must be working with.  He will go at this at every angle to get her back, even so far as hiring a human private detective.  Though that action in itself will bring even more complications into his life.

Cynthia 'Cyn' Leighton has been dismissed by everyone in her life; her mother, her father, her grandmother, her gold-digging sister and even the hired help.  Always having to prove her worth, it's no wonder she's built a tough to crack shell all around her to keep everyone out.  So she should have no problem keeping the hot, sexy Vampire Lord who seems to want more than her ability as a P.I., at bay.    But regardless of her feelings, they will not get in the way of her getting the job done.  And proving that it just may prove deadly for a vampire to dismiss a mere human as no type of threat.  After-all, while a vampire may have a human beat on stealth, strength and speed, there are plenty of weapons that can make up for those handicaps.

Nicely dark and gruesome in all the right places.  Vampires' out for blood and vengeance, and do not take such a thing as betrayal lightly; be it by human or vampire.  The only thing that was truly missing is the origin of the Vampire in this story, the history of how these vampire's came to be.  Other than that, it was truly a great read; full of blood, lust, intrigue and mystery.  I recommend this book to true vampire lovers, not the squeamish types.

Fangs for February, 2014

Wild Things by Chloe Neill
Book 10 of Chicagoland Vamires Series
February 4, 2014

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a wild ride. Bleeding Hearts Club

In honor of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, you know, what Valentine's Day is truly about, not cupid or even Eros, I went through to try to find some Vampire books centered around V Day.  No, I have not read any of them so I am only hoping that they are good and bloody.  From the synopsis' there are at the very least no sparkles....

Shadowed Review

Shadowed by Rebecca Zanetti
Book 6 of the Dark Protectors Series
Published October 3, 2014 by eKensington
5 BLOODY FANGS!!!!!!!!

"The worst part of torture may not be the brutal pain one is forced to endure, but the memories, guilt and fear that are left behind."

Summary -

Jase Kayrs was the fun brother. The warm, charming, easy-going brother of the vampire leaders. Until he was taken and tortured by demons with their evil mind tricks for nearly five years. Upon his return, he’s dark, violent, and not the man they all thought they knew. Not the man he once was. He’s haunted that the only reason the demons would have let him live was to use him as a weapon against his family—but he can’t figure out when or how he’ll explode. Plus, once again the demons are after Jase with a vengeance…or rather, a female demon he rejected is out to destroy him.

Then the king asks Jase for a favor…a big one. To mate with one of their allies in order to save her. She’s everything that’s good and light in the world…while he’s at home with darkness. Yet he agrees…knowing mating may be the only chance to save them both.  (Goodreads)

Review -

Jase Kayrs, the youngest of the infamous Karys' brothers, was always the fun brother with an undeniable sense of humor.  Able to find a joke within any given situation, to make even the King crack a smile.  Which is what made it so devastating when he was kidnapped by the demons and lost to his family for five years.  And when they finally did find him; buried in a shallow grave, left for dead and practically decapitated, his head hanging on by a mere tendon, it was his spirit that had been killed.  Gone was the fun-loving Jase, all that was left was a pure Vampire hell-bent on revenge.

Brenna Dunne, the eighth sister, youngest sister of Moira, the seventh sister of a seventh sister, her birth in itself was an anomaly.  An eighth sister was unheard of in a Witch family, yet there she was, different from everyone in her family.  Some saw her as a curse, others, her family mostly, as a blessing.  Seeing as how she never should have been, everything about her has been unpredictable.  And on her birthday on the Winter Solstice, when another comet veers toward the earth, as it did on the day of her birth, she will possess insurmountable power, and just blow a whole city up.  That is if she lives to see that day.

The most powerful Witch family and the most powerful Vampire family in the Realm decide to form an alliance.  What better way to do that than to arrange a mating between these two, hoping that in the process they can both save the others life.  What they hadn't planned on was the possibility that fate had already arranged their mating long ago.  The only question that truly remains is which emotion is stronger; love or vengeance?

Non-stop action from the beginning til the very end.  With a war going on between the Demons and the Vampires as well as with the Kurjans, how could it not?!  Readers will once again be sucked into Zanettis' Realm, feeling every emotion right along with the characters', and find their faces practically glued to each page.  There is just enough violence, passion, humor and bloodshed to make any vampire lover happy.  This entire series' still remains as a definite must read.  And keep on the lookout for Tamed, which is due out May 4th.

Dark Wolf Review

Dark Wolf by Christine Feehan
Book 25 of the Dark Series
Published January 7, 2014 by Penguin Group
4.5 BLOODY FANGS!!

"Mage, Dragonseeker, Healer, a true Daughter of Mother Earth, embracing all of those aspects may be the only way to save her lifemate."

Summary -

#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan now delivers her most eagerly awaited novel of all — ten years in the making.

In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death.

Skyler Daratrazanoff always recognized the miracle that was Dimitri Tirunul, a man beyond any dream that had ever engaged her nights. But she was human. Vulnerable. He was Carpathian. Nearly immortal. She was nineteen. He was an ancient. Yet she held half his soul, the light to his darkness. Without her, he would not survive. Caught between the two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free, and humans safe. He had survived honorably when others had chosen to give up their souls. But now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri found himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation was coming…

No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she had something no one else had. She was predestined for Dimitri—as he was for her. And there was nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk. (Goodreads)

Review -

Ten years in the making Dark Wolf is the first installation since Dark Celebration to bring all of the Carpathians back to their native soil, and into the pages of the same book.  Though the furthest thing from anyone's mind will be celebrating.

What happens when you threaten the life of someone connected to three of the most dangerous, ruthless, Carpathian families?  Simple, war.  But that is the exact intentions of an unknown Lycan.  Dimitri is being held captive, chained and being injected with silver.  When it appears as though no-one is going to rescue him, his lifemate, Skylar, decides to take matters into her own hands, well hers' and her two best friends'.  Skylar, whose adoptive parents' are Francesca and Gabriel, uncles Lucian, Gregori and Darius Daratrazanoff, birth father Razvan Dragonseeker; Joseph from the Italian sect of Carpathians, adoptive father Vlad and uncle Byron; Paul from the South American set, nephew of the De La Cruz brothers', brother in-law to Raphael De La Cruz, make up the search party.  And though to their own people they are nothing more than children, they will prove just how fatal things can get when you underestimate someone, or when you try to keep lifemates apart.

Feehan picks up on the aspect of genocide.  A certain faction of Lycans, members of the Sacred Circle, believe that all Sang Rue should be killed.  Not knowing, or caring, that there is as big a difference between San Rue and Guardians, than there is between Vampire and Carpathian.  A woman who is truly full grown at only nineteen because she was never allowed to have much of a childhood.  And touches onto the fact that when one has had such a traumatic childhood, a trigger can be he hit to bring back all  of that panic rushing back to the forefront, but with the right partner you can be eased through it.  The past does shape us, be we do not have to let it make us.

Dark Wolf in a word would be intense.  Readers will be taken on an emotional rollercoaster; happy, proud devestated, enranged, vengeful, oh and definitely hot and bothered.  This is one of those books where you want to just lock yourself away, don't answer the phones and get a babysitter for the kids so that you sit back, relax and devour the entire thing without having to put it down.  What it was missing was more on Skylar's mother, I would have loved to read more about her, her magic, who Xavier was able to kidnap her and why was she not able to escape using her powers once he sold both her and Skylar.

And stay tuned at the end because the intensity doesn't stop there.  There is an excerpt of Dark Blood, due out September, 2014, in which a secret about Zev's true lineage is revealed.
