Accidentally...Evil?

Accidentally...Evil? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff (ARC Review)
Accidentally Yours Book 3.5
RePublished April 30, 2013 by Forever Yours
5 Mystical Stars!

"Without evil there would be no need for heroes, and life would be a lot more dull."

Synopsis -

Backlum Chaam, the God of Male Virility, wasn't always such a bad guy. Before his heart turned black and his biggest goal in life became destroying mankind, he was just like any god. Compassionate, loyal, and dedicated. So where did it all go wrong? Sometimes broken hearts don't heal... (Goodreads)

Review -

Did it really all go wrong?  Or did it go exactly according to plan? Looks as though our favorite do-badder is up to her usual antics. The question readers will be left hanging with is why.

Accidentally...Evil? answers more questions than readers even thought to ask. It has been assumes since book 1 that Chaam had been evil from the beginning,  simply tired of his lot in life, as most of the other gods fans have come to know and love. Turns out we couldn't have been farther from the truth. And the reason for his descent will have not only readers in tears, but even el loco, Cimil. The reason for exuberance is also brought to light in this novella.

In this heart-wrenching, darkly hilarious novella, with a devastating ending, readers will fall madly in love with the most hated of all of the gods, as did his mate, Maggie.  Though most novellas fail to give a believable love story in such few pages, that is not the case here. Both except  what fate has lay before them. Only their happily ever after is very short lived.

Some may be tempted to skip this book, I strongly advise against doing so. It is a very important aspect to this series, and an extremely enjoyable read.

Accidentally Married to...a Vampire? Review

Accidentally Married To....A Vampire? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff (ARC Review)
Accidentally Yours Book 2
Re-Published March 5, 2013 by Forever
5 Bloody Fangs

"Dark humor, dark love and action packed with a good dose of violence, what more could a girl ask for?"

Synopsis -

“If you love her, set her free. If she comes back, she’s yours. If she doesn’t…Christ! Stubborn woman! Hunt her down, and bring her the hell back; she’s still yours according to vampire law.”
- Niccolo DiConti, General of the Vampire Queen’s Army.

THE DETERMINED VAMPIRE: Niccolo DiConti has faithfully served as leader of Her Majesty’s army for over a millennium, but he’d rather sunbathe in the Sahara than spend another grueling day under his demented queen’s command. However, no one has ever left her side and lived to tell. So when a powerful goddess prophesies he will meet his salvation—a human woman he must turn into a vampire with her consent—he eagerly rises to the challenge. After all, how hard could it be to seduce a human female into taking the immortal plunge? Harder than he thinks. Because his mate won’t be born for another three centuries, and when he wakes up in the goddess’ tomb, not only is his life a mess, but his destined female isn’t about to settle for a coldhearted vampire. Can he win her over before it’s too late? Not if his enemies have anything to do with it.

AN UNWILLING BRIDE: On the night Helena Strauss meets the fierce, devastatingly handsome vampire who saves her life in the jungles of Mexico, she knows her world will be forever changed. Because an attraction this mind blowing only comes along once in a lifetime—or existence. And when he claims she is his one true mate, destined to be his for all eternity, it’s a fairytale come true. So what if her knight in shining armor is a vampire? Nobody’s perfect. But discovering the powerful, overbearing immortal doesn’t “do love”? Deal breaker. Helena will flee and set out to accomplish the impossible…sever the otherworldly bond between them. And it turns out, Helena is just the leverage Niccolo’s enemies need to break the mighty warrior and wipe out his people.  (Goodreads)

Review -

If Krestley Cole and Kerrelyn Sparks had a love child, her name would be Mimi Jean Pamfiloff.  When sitting down to read any book in the Accidentally Yours Series, be prepared to laugh, cry, cringe and lose a good nights sleep.  Accidentally Married to...a Vampire will take readers on an emotional roller coaster ride that all Paranormal lovers are sure to enjoy.

Cimil, a Goddess who would make Nucking Futs Nix proud, is still up to her old tricks when a vampire, Niccolo Diconti, comes seeking her help.  Instead of just giving him straight forward advice (I mean, really, where is the fun in that?) she gives him the advice he "needs".  And knowing that he will not survive the 300 years it will take for his salvation to even be born, she knocks him out, for 300 years.  While he's sleeping she gifts him with a lil surprise.

Niccolo is more than sure he will have no trouble at all doing as Cimil has told him, after-all, as gorgeous as he is it can't be too hard to seduce his mate.  After living for thirteen centuries, surviving countless battles, leading the Vampire Army, earning the name of the Executioner, it seems winning over his Vampire Bride may be the hardest challenge he has ever faced.  Because when it comes to matters of the heart he is completely clueless, especially since he never realized how much trust played into the equation.  Trust is very hard to build when you have been forbade to reveal the secrets of your world.  It is even harder when the person you are trying desperately to avoid any and all questions from just happens to be a scientist.  His heated and passionate kisses can only hold her off of demanding answers for so long.

Helena is willing to except the fact that not only is Niccolo a vampire, seeing as she is a scientists whom studies things of the unnatural variety it isn't exactly that far stretched for her, and even the fact that he cannot reveal any secrets of his world until she has been transformed.  But, when he tells vampires are unable to love, she wants out, and she doesn't just sit around twiddling her thumbs but takes matters into her own hands and escapes her penthouse prison.  Which takes her on the adventure of a lifetime; running across a drop dead scrumptious looking Demilord with plans of his own, a bar full of leather-clad men with the same sexual preferences as her own, and face to face with the sadistic Vampire Queen that is the ultimate proof of how dangerous it can be for a vampires mate to be human.

Unpredictability at its best, readers will be guessing as to what will happen from one page to the next and won't experience even one dull moment.  A true must read for Paranormal and PNR lovers everywhere.

The Revelation Review

The Revelation by Jennifer Raygoza
The Guardians Book 2
Published October 24, 2013
5 BLOODY FANGS!

"What's more dangerous than standing between a Mother and her child?  Standing between  a Vampire Mother and her child."

Synopsis -

It's been three years since I have turned, and I am not sure who I am anymore. I don't even know if I want to be what I have become. Is love enough to keep me alive inside even if I am dead? How can I find peace within myself when everything around me screams war and death? How will things end when one man holds my eternal love and another wants me dead? There is no end as far as I can see. It’s just the beginning because I can feel the darkness approaching. It wants me. It calls for me by name. I will keep on fighting until it arrives. The problem is, if I don’t learn to shut off my emotions I may just become my own worst enemy. Is it all too much, or not enough? These are the things a vampire queen, new mother and woman fighting with her past human morals must ask herself. I have one more important question to answer that could change everything. IS THIS REALLY WHAT I WANT?

The red jeweled necklace the coven called The Eye of the Queen sat right at my cleavage. I ran one finger over my pale skin and red lips as I looked at my reflection in the mirror. Queen was my title, but I knew different. I was just a beautiful killer.  (Goodreads)

Review -

The Revelation is a truly apt name indeed for this installation of The Guardians.  Many things about the past are revealed from Caleb, Sasha, a not so dead Cain and more importantly, the real reason for the creation of the Dark Angels is revealed.  Readers who enjoyed book 1, you ain't seen nothin' yet, because this series' has turned out to be like a fine wine, it only gets better with time.

If you think being a mother is tough, try being a brand new vampire trying to raise two teenage vampires with the raging hormones of a human teen times ten who sped through diapers, terrible twos, adolescence and puberty all in the course of three years.  As if that isn't enough to deal with Gionna must also face threats both inside the walls of her own home when Caleb's ex-girlfriend decides to pop in and pay a visit, and the claws literally come out.  Gianna's plate quickly goes from full to overflowing when someone she loves sacrifices themself in an attempt to save her life.

Meanwhile it looks as though their mortal enemies are not as dead as they think, and he has been plotting all this time to get the vengeance he feels is rightfully his.  The torment he has planned just may be the final straw that rips apart her heart.  He has set several games to play with Gionna, all of which involve her coven, her family and her children.

This series' is a true must read for all vampire lovers, of the non-sensitive variety.  Be advised, this book cannot be read as a stand-alone.  Readers will be on the edge of there seats from one page to the next, and desperately awaiting Book 3, Blood Vengeance.

Illusion Review

Illusion by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Chronicles of Nick Book 5
Published April 1, 2014 by St. Martins Griffin
5 DEMONIC FANGS!!!!

"While some try to run away their past, Nick is in a perpetual race to change his future."

Synopsis -

Be careful what you wish for…

You just might get it.

Nick Gautier is tired of his destiny. He doesn’t want to be the son of a demon who’s fated to end the world. Nor does he want to see another demon or other preternatural creature who wants to kill or enslave him. He just wants to be normal and have normal problems like everyone else.

But normality isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. When he gets sucked into an alternate reality where his mother has married his mentor and his Atlantean god best friend has become a human geek, he begins to understand that no life is free of pain, and that every person has a specific place in the universe… Even the son of a hated demon.

Most of all, he sees that his powers aren’t the curse he thought they were, and that the world needs a champion, especially one its enemies can’t imagine rising up to defend the ones he should destroy.

Old enemies and new friends square off for a major battle that will either restore Nick to his real world, or end him forever.  (Goodreads)

Review -

One of the best books in the series', Illusion is the first in the Chronicles of Nick series that will bring a tear or two to readers eyes.  The heartfelt scene between Nick and his Dad is one that will leave an impression in readers minds for years to come.  The name is also the most apt, as Nick finds himself in a world that he thinks is nothing more than a dream, though the reality of his situation is much worst.  When Kody and Caleb cast a binding spell on Nick's Malachi powers, they didn't take into consideration just how vulnerable they were leaving him.

Ambrose has been on a desperate quest to change his future, helping his past self along the way, desperate to do whatever it takes to change his fate and that of the worlds'.  Only this time, he won't be able to help at all.  Nick has been thrown into a whole other dimension; one where different decisions have been made changing the lives of everyone he knows and loves, including Ash, Kyrian, Tabitha and Simi.  One where Caleb is still his best-friend, but not a demon.  Where Bubba is only known as Michael, but, he never stopped playing pro football and his wife is Cherise, and yes, he is Nick's Dad, making Nick one-hundred percent normal, and human.  Something he has been wishing for from the very beginning, but like the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for cause you just may get it.  Because the body that he's in now is making it a whole lot harder to fight off all of the demons, witches, ghosts, including his own evil army, that are all out for his blood, with not a single power to his name.  Not to mention the body he's stuck in is scrawnier, shorter and has probably never been in a real fight.  And while he desperately fights for his life in a body not his own, his true body is left vulnerable with the Nick of this dimension trapped inside screaming like a little girl and if he doesn't get to it in time, it will be a permanent lights out.

Illusion is a fast paced novel that should definitely not be read as a stand alone, and is a must-read for fans, especially those also following the Dark Hunter series.  Just be sure to read Styxx first, as you will appreciate it all the more.  Never a dull moment, and in the end readers just may learn to appreciate what they have in life, the good with the bad, because things can almost always get worst.  As always, Kenyon delivers a page-turner readers will not be able to put down until the very end.  Some questions will be answered and many more will be raised, and Nick brings in a couple more into the fold, always believing people, be they demon or anything else, deserve a second chance.  One can only hope that character flaw of his does not bring about his doom.

With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.  (Goodreads)

Review

What's the best way to judge how good a book truly is?  How long it takes you to read it.  Read this one in a day and a half, all while juggling the kids, work and friggin' Girl Scouts.  Though I still regret reading Up From The Grave BEFORE reading Twice Tempted, since it gave away such a big secret, "seeing" the way it played out was phenomenal.

While I am still extremely hurt to have had to say goodbye to Cat and Bones, I am equally as glad to have Leila and Vlad.  To say these two are another dynamic duo to be a drastic understatement.  With his pyrokenisis and her electrical currents, not to mention both of their temperaments, they truly know how to heat up a page.  And if there was ever a true match for Vlad the Impaler, Leila has truly proved to be it.

Vlad has kept his heart wrapped in a cage of ice for centuries, not an easy thing to do when you're the Prince of Flames.  So should come as no wonder that he finds it difficult to allow himself to admit is true feelings for Leila.  After-all, they both went into this relationship under the agreement of remaining strictly physical.  And we all know which road is paved with good intentions.  Leila comes to her final straw after the proposal she is given is far from what she expected, and gives Vlad an ultimatum.  When he makes the wrong decision, she does the unthinkable and leaves.  Heading back to the carnival and a whole new heap of trouble.  Leila will learn the hard way that Vlad isn't the only one who likes playing with fire, with deadly circumstances.  As she is the initial target Leila is faced with a decision of her own; to trust the man she loves and humiliated by walking away from, or the man she considers a friend and has never kept his desires a secret.  So the question becomes whether the threat on her life is an act of vengeance, a ploy at a deadly love affair or whole new party altogether.

Pages filled with blood, mayhem, betrayal, deadly desires, manipulation, heat and gruesome death, readers will not be able to put this book down until the last page.  There is never a dull moment when dealing with Vlad Basarab Dracul.  And pity the man, or woman, who dare cross him.  Both Once Burned and Twice Tempted are true must reads for true vampire lovers.  Please do not cheat yourself and read this book as a stand alone.  At least start with Once Burned, but to get the full affect, read the entire Night Huntress Universe series.  And look out for the final installment to Leila and Vlad's trilogy, due out in December, 2014.

To save them, however, she must enter Buffalo’s vampire community and put herself into the care of Rajmund Gregor. But can she trust Raj, the dangerously seductive vampire who wants to lay claim far more than her secrets?  (Goodreads)

Review

Reynolds continues to reel readers in with another chilling tale of true Vampires'.  In the Vampire's in America series' one will not find a hint of a sparkle, nor a Vampire afraid to get his hands a little, or a lot bloody.

Becoming senile can be a dangerous thing, add to that the strength, capabilities and power of being a Master Vampire and can become deadly.  The Vampire Lord of Northeast America has been descending into madness for quite some time, no-one realizing just how had  things had become.  After-all, every child he has ever made are weak and arrogant imbeciles, except one, Rajmund Gregor.  Whom he as far away as possible when he realized just how much power Raj held.  Having to call him home when some part of his brain recognized he had lost complete control over everything going on his territory, things that could every human eye onto the Vampire community in the worst way.  Blood Houses so overcrowded no-one knows who is coming or going and blood orgies practically taking place on the lawn, women missing, including a prominent businessman's daughter.  Which has drawn the attention of the police and the media as well.  It is now up to Raj to get to the bottom of everything, with an unlikely ally in the form a little human psychic.  Now all he has to do is keep his fangs and other hard objects of his anatomy to himself long enough to solve the case.

Less blood shed than the previous two books but a lot more intrigue, the only thing keeping this from being a full 5 Fang Review is the fact that I am a stickler for detail.  I was left at the end with a LOT of questions still unanswered.  Instead of just learning Sarah's real name, it would have been nice to know what is was about her familial ties that would make the care about her in the first place.  And I very much would like to know where these vampires originated; another planet, dimension, are them demon spawn or fallen angel...

All in all it was still a great read.  And the last page will have readers screaming right along with Cyn.

Repossession Review

Repossessed by Shawntelle Madison
Book 1 of the Warlock Repo Man Chronicles
Published January 20, 2014 (NetGalley ARC)
4 Mystical Stars

"The hardest person for a Matchmaker to play matchmaker for, is herself."

Summary -

Supernatural matchmaker Tessa Dandridge knows a little mist here and a little magic there will help reckless werewolves and precocious pixies find love. That is, until her magical Smythe scroll is lost in her repo’ed car and she can’t contact her V.I.P. clients. To connect with an important client cavorting in the fifth dimension, Tessa must depend on handsome Rob Shin, a warlock repo man, to enter Limbo and find her Smythe scroll.

Rob has money problems of his own, thanks to the bank determined to foreclose on his elderly aunt and uncle’s home. Repossessing magic wands and cursed pianos from disgruntled warlocks isn’t the best pay, but the Navy SEAL works well as a repo man to pay off his family’s debts. Rob’s repossession jobs catch up with him when a powerful warlock seeks to end his life for his constant meddling, drawing Tessa in the middle.  (Goodreads)

Review -

Truth be told, I had no idea what to expect when reading the title.  I mean, come on, a Warlock Repo Man?But I can also honestly say I am more than happy to have had the opportunity to read this book and more than pleasantly surprised with how things turned out.

Having more than a few financial problems myself, I could definitely feel where Tessa was coming from.  Determined to make it on her own and make her business a success, without asking her family, who are indeed well off, for any help. Even a Water Witch has to have some pride, and in some cases asking for help can be a physical ache.  Especially when the people you would have to ask have been dissappointing the entirety of your life, or would like nothing more than to see you fail, miserably.  So, when her car gets repossessed, by a man she ogled so hard at a stoplight she could probably count just how many dimples were in his derriere, and the only way to contact the one client that could make or break her is in the glove compartment, let's just say she is pretty desperate to get it back.    But when one door closes....

Minho 'Rob' Shin is a powerful Warlock, Navy SEAL and a Supernatural Repo Man.  Coming home to find his Aunt and Uncle in dire need of cash, he takes on any odd job he can find, including that of a Repo Man of a special sort.  Not only does he repo cars', but wands, magical jewelry and even a rabbit's foot here and there, tossing the items into Limbo and leaving a magical calling card whenever payments become non-existent.  After-all, though magic may be free, magical items are not.  Whenever there is a discrepancy the owner is more than free to settle the dispute in the Supernatural Municipal Court, as long as they're willing to wait in line for a few years.  Except for Tessa Dandridge, who is not willing to wait, but willing to do whatever else it takes to get her car back, more importantly the Scroll inside, even if it means jumping into Limbo each and every time he goes to Repo something.  But Rob better watch out, because she may just jump into his heart as well and he is quickly running out of time.

There is also a war brewing on the sidelines, Wizards' VS Warlocks.  And one very Dark Warlock determined for the Warlocks to come out on top, whatever means necessary.  So when Rob and Tessa start meddling in his business by repossessing items on his evil to-do list, he can think of quite a few imaginative punishments, i.e. an extended trip to Limbo, or even death.  Either would suit him just fine.

Fans of Magic and Love will love this read; it's pretty light with just a smidgen of darkness.  So for readers taking their first step into the Paranormal world this will be the perfect read.  For readers who only feel at home when reading of the Paranormal, you'll be sure to like this too.  There may not be much blood and guts, but it is indeed a beautiful love story and a fresh, new outlook on the Supernatural world.
