A Little Unexpected Magic For The Holidays

When who's your daddy is a multiple choice question...

Paranormal Psychologist Matilda Schmidt is one client away from fa-la-la-la-losing it. Holiday cheer is in the air, gun-toting fruitcakes are in her office, and she's spinning through mood swings fast enough to make her toss her cookies--even without the morning sickness.

When Ol' Kris Kringle goes AWOL after a nervous breakdown, his disgruntled elf is convinced that only Matilda can get him back on his sleigh in time to keep humans from tearing each other apart quicker than couponeers at a Black Friday sale.

But their efforts hit the skids when the men in Matilda's life show up and demand to know which of them is responsible for the bun in her oven: the hot hit man who's likely to stuff her stocking with ammunition, or the delicious demigod who's made Santa's naughty list a couple centuries running.

I like gravy.
This has nothing to do with the rest of my bio, but I thought you ought to know.
About the writing thing...
I wrote my first play when I was six and made my brothers perform it for my parents. I charged gum wrappers for admission (a steal, in my opinion, considering I had handed out the gum wrappers ahead of time). While I seriously doubt you'll be seeing any of my formative work on Broadway anytime soon, I can credit these early experiments with the first of many important lessons I learned about writing: no matter how brilliant your manuscript is, some kid can go streaking butt-ass nekkid across the living room, and totally undermine your vision.

Everyone watches the naked kid because running across the living room with your cheeks flapping in the breeze is friggin' hilarious.
Cue the lightbulb moment. People like funny stuff!
I never quite gave up on the writing thing, even as I tried my hand at being a dusty academic turned Executive Assistant (they paid me to nag! How cool is that?), but in those quiet moments when expense reports had been filed and to-do items checked off, the funny people in my head kept talking to me.
Yes, I know they have medication for that. It's called vodka.
Since they discourage drinking at work, I started writing instead. What came out was an amalgamation (vocabulary!) of all the things I love: funny stuff, art, psychology, food, people, and paranormal critters!
Et voila! The Case Files of Dr. Matilda Schmidt, Paranormal Psychologist were born.

When I'm not sitting in my office watching cat videos and pretending to write, I like cooking, knitting (badly), and reading anything that makes me laugh (like my bank statements).
I live in Colorado with my brilliant husband and three surly cats.

Want to catch up on the rest of this Amazing Series?  Well here is your chance!

GothicKids Movie of the Month: December 2014

It's once again time for Nessa to pick the movie/book of the month, and once again she's late! Lol. Awe, Spawns these days. She has picked a classic that we watch year round, and is our official Christmas movie. For the book well...she was a tad indecisive. So she will be back next month on that topic!

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a classic tale in my household, one that proves every holiday has its own mastermind for a reason. Also that just because you are known for one holiday in particular, does not mean you can't at least enjoy the others, in your own way, as well.

In the words of my Spawn: Its about a skeleton king named Jack who wants to give up his title.  If only he knew someone knew how he felt.  Guess  who? I'M NOT TELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!                                                                                        BY:Nessa

A Very Bloodthirsty Christmas

What if Santa was really a vampire who came to take his fill of unsuspecting people's blood one night out of every 365 days to sustain him throughout the entire year, and the presents were just a way of saying thank you? And his reason for wearing red was just in case he spilled a drop or two and didn't want to alert any sleepy-headed children who may awaken as he does his nefarious deeds? Yes, I have a very sick and twisted mind, but so do others. This post is filled with  reads I found that have Vampires within their pages, and this list is but a tip of the very large iceberg. Some I have read, others I have not. The ones I have, and recommend, I will add a sidenote/link to the review if one is available. More than just good lil girls and boys deserve a Merry Christmas. Muahahahaha!!

Synopsis -

This holiday season has bite.

Ben Prescott hates Christmas—he’s a vampire, and to him, there’s certainly nothing jolly about the holiday season. While the humans are running around being merry, he’s hunting in the shadows. Ben plans to spend the holidays his way…by stalking deadly prey.

But fate has other plans for Ben.

Three visitors are coming Ben’s way…A demon who will force Ben to face his past, a ghost who will show Ben the present he could have, and a shifter who will reveal the darkness that waits in Ben’s future. Unless Ben can change his ways, he may just turn into a real monster, one who can’t be saved by anyone or anything.

’Tis the season…to be undead.

Ben’s redemption rests in the hands of the one woman he loved and lost—Simone Laurent. If Ben is going to have a chance at being more than just the beast in the darkness, he has to prove himself to the lovely Simone. A very hard task, considering that, once upon a Christmas Eve, Simone died in Ben’s arms…

Warning: This book features one very tortured vampire, a sexy ghost from his past, and hot scenes designed to melt the winter snow. Plenty of action, adult situations, and steamy times are ahead. Happy holidays!

GothicKids Gift Ideas

Apple White and Raven Queen
This just in, there are more dolls!! ARGH!! Ever After High featuring the Royals and the Rebels.  Of course, my daughter loves the Rebels.  These are NOT the same as Monster High, whole 'nother category all together.  As opposed to Monster High being the children of the monster's most of us grew up with and loved, these are the children of all the fairytale characters' the other kids loved, PLUS the children of the "bad guys", who I still say were just misunderstood, characters' as well.  Click here to visit the site.

More Gift Ideas

Most GothicMoms are like me, they have to stay conservative on the outside for their teenage kids' and/or for work.  Well, not on the inside they don't; i.e. inside their car, bedroom or beneath their clothes......

Corsets

Corset-story has not only some very unique corsets and ALL sizeds, but at very reasonable prices as well.  And hint, if you want to gift this as a surprise, peak at her bra back size, and get it 2 sizes below that.  Corsets are SUPPOSED to be snug.

Gift Ideas For The PNR Lover On Your Christmas or Soltice List

Looking for that perfect gift is never easy, most times impossible.  Here's one hint: NEVER buy a book lover a book not in the genre they read! I.e., a PNR lover will NOT enjoy a self-help book, or a book with sparkly vampires; except for kids.  Here are a few suggestions.  What would help you out even more would be to feign interest in what series he/she is into, and by the next book due out, pre-order it, or by buying paraphernalia in relation to it.  Or something new that is similar to what they watch/read.

TRUE BLOOD FANS:
Best I have seen, by far, is on Ebay.  Seasons 1-5 for only $99.99.  But hurry! they only have 5 left!  Season 6 is not yet out...

Ten Vampy Reads To Help Get You Into The Holiday Spirit

Holidays Are Hell by Kim Harrison

This holiday, spend quality time with family and loved ones—living and dead . . .

There's no place like home for the horrordays—unless you'd prefer a romantic midnight walk through a ghost-infested graveyard . . . or a haunted house candlelight dinner with the sexy vampire of your dreams. The (black) magical season is here—and whether it's a solstice séance gone demonically wrong with the incomparable Kim Harrison, a grossly misshapen Christmas with the remarkable Lynsay Sands, a blood-chilling-and-spilling New Year's with the wonderful Marjorie M. Liu, or a super-powered Thanksgiving with the phenomenal Vicki Pettersson, one thing is for certain: in the able hands of these exceptional dark side explorers, the holidays are going to be deliciously hellish!
