"Readers who are fans of both PNR and XMen, are sure to appreciate this read."

Summary

In a stunning new paranormal romance series—even edgier than her bestselling Guardians of Eternity books—New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Ivy lures readers into the dark, seductive world of the Sentinels—humans outcast by their hidden abilities, treading the line between life and death, good and evil, pleasure and pain…

Born In Blood

Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally. (Goodreads)

Review

It is truly refreshing to see a heroine that isn't ashamed of who, or what, she is.  And could care less about what others have to say about it.

The Sentinels is a brand new series by Alexandra Ivy, and I have to say I love her series' much more than her stand alone reads.  No disappointment here!  Behind the walls of Valhalla are a group of beings ranging from diviners, necromancers, psychics, witches and of course Sentinels.  There are two types of Sentinels, hunters or guardians, but their extra talents lie within completely different fields; nulls, trackers and soul seekers.  Since humans are not privy to that information, it came as no surprise that Duncan had no idea what he truly was.

Another great factor to the relationship aspect of this story is that Duncan and Callie already knew one another as colleagues way before they became lovers.  What better way to bond than over a dead body or two, right?  As a homicide detective, Duncan has ran into Callie more often than not.  Afterall, she is the one they call upon when there has been a murder, especially involving high bloods.  As a necro she can enter the victims mind and view their last minutes, until now.  This case the two have stumbled on brings Callie face to face, or more like mind to mind, with the deadliest necromancer ever known.  One with the ability to truly raise the dead, not just a boker.  And the plans he has in store could very well destroy the world, or at the very least bring it to its knees.

Born In Blood is filled with action, suspense and plenty of gore.  Though there could have been more action thrown in, this was still a good read all the same.  Readers will be eagerly awaiting more from this series, as a few couples' have some heavy tension and great potential for amazing reads; Wolfe, The Tagos leader of the Sentinels and The Mave, Leader of Valhalla; Fane, Guardian Sentinel and Serra, Man-Eating Psychic.  Definitely looking forward to book 2.
